Summary: Castle doesn't like strings.
A/N: I posted this over at FF.com, but am hoping to receive more feedback. Am a newbie at this nonsense and would like to improve. :)
Richard Castle did not like strings. No, he hated them. Strings were inconvenient annoyances which inevitably would twist and intertwine into chains clasped tightly to his limbs. They were torture devices, slowly leading him to a horrifyingly painful death, in the most dramatic fashion. Under no circumstances was that a good thing in anywhere other than his novels. Well, that is what he thought. This string, though. This string had potential. As he sat in his cold, hard chair he let his thoughts wander into all the different scenarios this string could lead him into. He'd gladly follow any one of those fictional opportunities. They all involved exposed flesh and climactic, loud endings. He wonders how long it has been there. It couldn't have been all that long. He would have noticed a lot sooner if it had, wouldn't he? Especially where she's concerned.
His reverie is suddenly broken when a crack resounds through the air. Jerking his head towards the vibration, he sees her palm planted firmly on the desk in front of him. He lifts his gaze to hers and is met with a frigid glare.
Realizing she is waiting for an answer, he meekly cleared his throat, trying to rid his mind of the vivid images he'd been seeing. "Sorry?" Castle forced from his lips as a particularly stubborn vision involving red lace and silk sheets refused to disappear.
"You know, I've learned to deal with the staring as part of your creepy charm, but this is completely inappropriate. I am at work. I should not have to sit here and be subjected to lecherous eyes doing God knows what in your mind-"
"What? No! No, no, no, you just have," he says as he reaches over to just below her collar, "a string," and pulls the thread away.
