Sad, isn't it? I've noticed, though, that people are starting to migrate away from LJ and become more dependent on MySpace, now. Internet communication is moving further and further away from writing and more towards photos and fill-in-the-blank.
Not even that, though -- people have never been very good at writing. The real problem that I see is the incompatible systems and wide spread websites, which don't talk in any meaningful fashion.
Imagine if you couldn't send e-mail to someone because they used Outlook and you use Mail.app. You'd think that completely stupid, but that's what people are willingly subjecting themselves to in droves with Blogs and IM.
