I just embarked on a pretty humongous project (stranded knitting dk weight 6 foot long scarf) and I am in need of a small, portable project for times (soon) when this beast becomes unwieldy and impossible to stuff in my purse.  So I thought maybe I'd ask those of you who knit as well, if we wanted to do this sort of thing together? times like this, I wish I could actually knit and crochet. I know the basics... I can cast on... but I have a horrible habit of pulling the yarn tighter and tighter as I go on, until I can no longer wedge a needle or hook into the next loop. Then the whole thing comes apart and I throw it into a corner to be ignored for a year.
