avg or avast! ?

a followup to my last lj post, which one should I use, Avast! or AVG? I just want something non-intrusive that I can forget about after install (unless it alerts me to something of course). I don't want a system hog (I do game on my computer), and I don't want something to nag me about upgrading to a paid version all the time. So, which one?

Avast. I've not used AVG since the 8.0 debacle with it turning into bloatware.

Avast is at least not as bad of a system hog, and it stays out of the way most of the time.

I would advise going in and shutting the sounds off in the UI, though- they'll drive ya crazy otherwise. :D

+1. Caveat: Every 9 months you have to re-register avast! to continue getting updates, but it's basically a matter of going to the website and saying, "Please give me another key," so it's ten minutes of your time every 9 months for a good, free anti-virus.

It's actually a yearly thing, and it's not that high a price to pay, really. My spam load has not increased one bit from giving them my email address.
