Fic: A Day in My Life

Jun 23, 2008 19:36

WonWon was the first to wake to the sound of her cell phone alarm blasting away some unintelligible song in Japanese. Her body reached for it on reflex and though she wasn’t sure she was quite awake, she dragged her body out of bed and to the bathroom. Blinking beadily at the mirror, she plucked her toothbrush (the red one) from the toothbrush stand and began to brush her teeth.

It wasn’t until she rinsed her mouth and was drying her face that she really looked in the mirror, only to see Luna looking back at her.

“Huh.”

*

ShinLynn was the next to wake to the shrilling beeps of Luna’s alarms through the walls of her bedroom. She blinked at the ceiling, hoping vainly that the girl would turn off her alarms. Giving up, she kicked off her blankets and walked to the wall and pounded on it to annoy the girl (or at least wake her) before going to brush her teeth.

And then she saw Luna coming out of the bathroom, brows furrowed in confusion.

ShinLynn growled, “Your alarms woke me up.”

“Sorry, Draco.”

“No, you’re not.” ShinLynn said, moving past Luna to the bathroom. It took a moment before she realized what Luna had said and then stuck her head out the door and called, “Luna, did you just call me Draco?”

Luna didn’t answer, busying herself in the kitchen by making coffee.

ShinLynn shrugged and then went to groom. But when she stared at the mirror and found blond locks framing her face, and Draco staring back at her in horror, ShinLynn thought that this was all a dream or the result of that stupid green drink that the staff at the studio gave them yesterday.

*

The moment Draco couldn’t find the plush cat she always slept with she knew something was wrong. She climbed out of bed and ran out to their hallway in hysterics.

“WonWon! WonWon!”

“What’s wrong?” Luna asked worriedly, running to Draco’s aid.

“I can’t find my kitty plushie!” Draco cried.

“…” Luna gave Draco a strange look. And then, “Draco, have you looked in the mirror yet?”

“Luna, you’re not helping!”

“I’m not Luna.”

“It’s no time to be kidding,” Draco whined, “Kitty is missing!”

“Draco, go to the bathroom and look in the mirror.”

“Here! Stop crying!” And then Draco was staring at a scowling Draco, who was shoving the kitten plush into her hands.

“Kitty!” Draco cheered, hugging the stuffed animal close to her and then blinked, and stared at the other Draco. And then she squeaked in horror, “WHO ARE YOU?!”

“Draco, calm down,” Luna soothed. “We’re not sure what’s happening, but somehow when we woke up I’ve become Luna, and ShinLynn’s become you. We’re going to get things back to normal, so don’t worry about it. Just bear with it for the day.”

“So, Draco’s in WonWon’s body,” Draco said absently before her eyes widened with understanding as she stared at the door to ShinLynn’s room. “Oh my god.”

*

When Luna woke and was updated on their situation, she laughed.

“I’m ShinLynn!” the girl cheered. “This is awesome!”

“Not awesome!” Draco moaned pitifully. “Why you of all people?”

“You know I’ll make it the best day of your life.”

“Look, we’re just going to have to deal with this, right?” Luna said enthusiastically, logically. The rest thought it senseless that she was the voice of reason, but then, she was WonWon so that made sense. It didn’t make it any less weird. “We’ll just go and do our things, and we don’ have to perform today so we won’t have to worry about singing the wrong solo parts. Just go about your schedule and we’ll be fine.”

“WonWon’s right! We just have to stick together and do our best right?” WonWon added happily, clutching the stuffed cat all the while.

“Right!” Luna and Luna chimed cheerfully. They stared at the lone member who didn’t say anything.

“ShinLynn?” Luna carefully said.

Draco sighed, “Right.” And then she gave Luna a look. “Please don’t destroy my reputation.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Luna said, cheerfully. “Best day of ShinLynn’s life. I promise.”

*

Draco was the first to leave that day for a CM shooting at the Rainbow Bridge. Luna handed Draco her schedule for the day and smiled encouragingly.

“If you don’t understand something, either call me or ask my manager.”

When Draco was ushered rather hurriedly by WonWon’s manager to set, she was immediately given her lines to memorize and thrown into a whirlwind of make up, hair, and clothes. It was just like doing their concerts, except when she stared at the line she was supposed to say, it was all in kan’ji and Draco had no idea how to read it at all.

When she asked her manager, the woman gave her a look that said she was supposed to already know this and Draco felt guilty. When they were shooting the CM, they had to do it again and again because Draco kept stumbling over her lines.

It took three hours to film instead of the one hour and Draco missed lunch.

WonWon’s manager was not impressed and gave her a long lecture. Draco thought it was hard and wanted to call WonWon to make things better but decided it was better to just continue trying her best. Besides, she was sure Luna’s schedule was just as busy.

*

Luna’s schedule said that she was supposed to have a lunch date with X-su and then go for a press conference on endorsing the new DoCoMo cell phone before going for a photoshoot and then taking the rest of the day off.

WonWon sighed in relief that her day wasn’t harder.

When she saw X-su waiting for her at the café, WonWon wondered what they were supposed to talk about. They greeted each other, and then were silent until their meal came. Even when their food came, they were silent and making idle conversation. WonWon wondered whether it was always this quiet when X-su and Luna were out.

“So… How’re things going for you?” WonWon asked carefully.

“Good. And for Luna-san?”

“Things are interesting.”

“Is that so?”

“Yeah.”

And then it was quiet again. WonWon thought it was painful and wondered how Luna dealt with it all the time.

“Are you always this dull?” WonWon asked absently.

X-su looked offended and stood, “I can’t believe you, Luna-san. That’s not something you’re supposed to say to me!”

“I’m sorry! I have a lot on my mind right now, and you’re not really that interesting, you know!”

X-su stood up, paid the bill and left. WonWon bit her lips and wondered whether she might have messed something up before deciding that it didn’t matter and things will go back to normal when Luna was back in her own body.

*

Luna was having a ball and completely not following ShinLynn’s schedule, which meant that she was skipping classes and just going out for lunch without disguise or anything.

And then her cell phone started ringing. She looked at the name on the screen: Ayumu. Luna didn’t know who Ayumu was and wondered what else ShinLynn’s been keeping from her. Pressing the call button, Luna answered.

“Hello?”

“ShinLynn! You weren’t in class today!”

“I skipped.”

“Eh? Why?”

“I’m not feeling well,” Luna easily lied as she decided to go get lunch at the fancy looking café.

“Oh, I’m sorry! I’ll lend you my notes then, okay? Get some rest! I’ll see you!”

“Bye.”

Luna sighed and went into the café to order. While she was waiting for lunch, ShinLynn’s mobile rang again.

“Hello?”

“ShinLynn, where are you? We’re supposed to meet for lunch 30 minutes ago!”

“Eh? I’m sick today!” Luna said, coughing dramatically. “Sorry!” The waitress placed her lunch before her and Luna chirped, “Thanks!”

“You’re lying, aren’t you?”

Luna cursed and wondered what was up with all the people related to ShinLynn calling her a liar.

“I’m not!”

“I hear people ordering food in the background.”

“You’re hearing things! Er, I have to go now! Bye!” And Luna hung up. She would have turned off her phone if ShinLynn didn’t forbid it. And then her phone rang again.

“Hello?”

“ShinLynn,” it was manager-san, “I’m going to pick you up from campus in half an hour, okay?”

“Okay.”

Luna got lost looking for ShinLynn’s school and ended up wandering around for an hour before someone finally pointed her in the right direction to campus. Needless to say, her manager was not pleased about having to wait and be late.

*

The moment ShinLynn arrived at the photoshoot for animal adoption she was dolled up and ushered onto set where a box of puppies was waiting. She wasn’t quite sure what she was supposed to do, and just stared at the puppies curiously before looking at the staff in confusion.

“Do your thing, Draco-san.”

ShinLynn stared and then placed a hand on her hip. “What exactly am I supposed to do?”

“Play with the puppies, anything is fine. Just look cute.”

ShinLynn cautiously pet one of the puppies in the box.

“Draco-san, can you try to look cuter?”

“I don’t know how to look cute,” she frowned.

The photoshoot took twice as long as usual, and ShinLynn had a headache by the end of it.

*

There was a CM shoot for cat food in the afternoon for WonWon, Draco melted with adoration for the kitty. The producers told her it was the best CM they’ve shot by far because WonWon seemed to genuinely love the cat. They asked her to sign a contract for another two CMs, and WonWon immediately agreed.

When Draco left that job, she felt satisfied that she did well and that she got WonWon more jobs. With that, she went home happy.

*

Luna’s DoCoMo press conference was going great until a particular reporter asked, “There have rumors that you are leaving the group sunc to go solo; don’t you think that by doing this, it will antagonize the rest of sunc?”

Her manager in the back vehmentantly shook her head and made a big cross with her hands. WonWon shook her head and smiled.

“Definitely not,” WonWon magnanimously replied. “sunc is now and forever. I would never even think about leaving the group, and I’m sure they support my doing this just like how I support Draco’s activism, ShinLynn’s education, and WonWon’s busy work schedule.” Luna grinned for the camera and laughed, “Besides, ShinLynn’s always anxious to get me to stop bothering her when she has work.”

The reporters chuckled, and later, Luna’s manager told her that she’s never handed a solo question better.

*

ShinLynn had a promotion photo shoot for the new drama she was supposed to do. Luna took every opportunity to bother the protagonist during the photo shoot including during make up. By the time they were done, the guy was avoiding her and Luna took it to mean a job well done.

*

The guy was persistent and kept following her despite her attempts to lose him. ShinLynn wondered how Draco was able to tolerate the obvious stalking all the time because she knew that guy had been following her all day. She tapped her fingers against her hip and glanced around the busy Shibuya station during rush hour.

Getting on the train, she found herself pressed against many other people going home from work, and tried to make herself as inconspicuous as possible (which was hard considering she had bright blond hair peaking from beneath her hat.

And then she felt a hand on her butt and ShinLynn freaked out, grabbing onto the hand and breaking the man’s wrist. There was a scream of pain, and many shocked passengers, moving aside for the man with a now-broken wrist. ShinLynn began swearing and threatening him for sexual harassment, and a train officer finally got on the train and arrested the man before apologizing profusely to her for the trouble.

*

They woke up the next morning, wondering whether it was all a dream, but when ShinLynn picked up the newspaper, on the front headlines was “sunc’s Draco assists in arrest of sexual predator,” she thought she might have accidentally gone overboard considering she was Draco. Though it wasn’t like the creep didn’t deserve it.

When WonWon turned on the T.V., on FNN Super News was a brief clip from yesterday’s press conference for DoCoMo by Luna. The announcer made some comment about how Luna’s solo career is permanently on hold, and WonWon smiled.

The tabloids later that week came out that Luna and X-su had broken up again, and when Luna asked WonWon about it, she sheepishly shrugged and went about memorizing her lines for the commercials.

Draco was just happy that there were fewer people following her around now.
