Drawings - James Marsters - Spike

This is the latest drawing - James Marsters at the Paley Reunion.  While much more realistic I prefer the more stylized one with the exotic quality.  Feedback on styles would be much appreciated.  This is one of the "cheato" drawings but it's an excellent way to learn how to eventually get better "realistic style" portraits - even with this ( Read more... )

Thanks for your visit sandy_s those photos of James Marsters at the Paley Reunion are some of my favorite of him. I loved this hair style for him thought it was very becoming I'm eventually going to try one that has JM & SMG together.

The curls are amazing in your drawing! :o) I wish they had let him have curly a bit more on the show. And yay...looking forward to your JM/SMG one...

I will be doing two more attempts - one a total free hand and one a digital drawing. You will love the drawing by Clavus over at the Buffy Forum project.

Thanks Ever - I like everything about how James Marsters looked for the Paley Reunion. He had just come in from long distance travel from working on Dragonball Evolution.

I did a pastel painting few years ago with his hair the longest he has ever worn it. He looks great with long hair at that period in his life. Some day I will have to do something with that Strange Drippy Curls look he had for Wedding Band and The Bells of West 87th Street -

Looking at your ID Icon reminded me that I did a pastel painting of this scene with both Dru and Spike. Unfortunately I do not have any photos of it but I was pleased with the results. Very stylized but I think it was an effective image.

Was thinking I would like to revisit this scene again since I just re-read the Spike vs Dracula IDW comic books.

I'm not a fan of the "Paley look" myself, but the portrait itself looks great and I love what you did with the colours and roses.

Hi DD - thanks for your comments - I'm always amazed at how differently people respond to images - it's fascinating.

Take Angel and DB - outside of season one and some select episodes from season three - I never got the "face of an angel" thing. Millions of fans for DB who think he is absolutely gorgeous handsome and I don't see him this way at all.

As they say, there's no accounting for taste.

I think DB looks quite handsome, but "face of an angel" better describes Spike in the early seasons, I think.
