Lark was sitting at a nearby table, trying to drown out the conversations around her while she poked at the terrible food she'd been given and read up on some of the EDF regulations she would now have to learn.

However, she could hear some of the conversation going on, which caused her to glance up and realize she didn't like what she was seeing.

Lark shut her book of regulations, stood up, walked over towards the men who were harassing some young girl, and ripped off the seal on her forehead.

"Dix-Neuf," she said, and a massive arm shot out of the ground underneath where the men and girl were standing.

The three offending soldiers started at the mechanical arm, mouths hanging open, for several seconds, before reaching a unanimous and wordless decision to get their asses out of the cafeteria.

The arm plucked Nono off the ground and set her down away from where it had just damaged some of the cafeteria ground, and then shrank away and disappeared.

Wordlessly, Lark placed the seal back on her forehead, picked up her book, and turned around and walked out of the cafeteria. It would definitely be easier to find some quiet elsewhere.

As the arm disappeared, Nono met Lark's eyes for an instant, staring mystified and breathless as the girl walked away.

It took an extended pause for Nono to run after her heroine.
