“Annyeonghaseyo, Cho Kyuhyun ibnida. Right now I’m busy to answer your call, so please leave your message and I’ll try to get you later. Beeeeep.”
“Kyuhyun-ah, Kangin-hyung here. The wedding is about to start in any minute. Are you not coming? Anyway, we are waiting for you. Hurry up!”
The black Samsung handset laid on the bed beside an old photo album.
You halted your pace in front of a big, leafy tree.
That tree looked the same as it was seven years ago.

“Let’s not meet each other again.”
He said those words to you right after you argued with him.
The big tree was the witness of your first break up ever.
You didn’t know that saying goodbye would be so easy, yet he said it to you just like that.
You wondered how you took his words at that time and accepted the parting.

Small branches swayed by the breezy wind. Dead, orange leaves fell down to the ground.
The leaves changed from green to orange, just like you.
You were still green when you fell in love with him.
You were not sure whether you have grown up, but you knew you were getting older. You didn’t want to spend your golden days alone, but you were still not sure with whom you would spend them with. He found someone else, but why couldn't you?

They say breaking up was hard, but you were too young to understand - you almost didn’t feel anything. The pain, the suffering, you didn’t feel them at all.
Because you told yourself that things were meant to be like that.
It was good while it lasted, and when the end came, it ended.
How fool of you to think of it like that at that time.

Looking back at that time, you cried silently.
So it was true, what people said. It was hard to keep the friendship after the break up.
You regretted of what you did.
You wanted to turn back time, to replenish the friendship that you used to have with him, to be by his side as a friend, not a lover. So you could still be beside him, even as a friend.

Three years later, you were studying overseas. New places, new faces, but you managed to adapt to them.
Sometimes, or rarely, you would contact him, asking him how he have been doing.
He talked to you, laughed with you, but it never felt so distant.

You found new love, and like your previous relationship, it ended just like that.
Every single time you felt sad, you would call him, and he would listen to you.
Sometimes you asked him whether he have found someone else. He said he still haven’t found anyone, and you would say “You should find someone that could take care of you.”
Deep inside your heart, you hoped that the person he was looking for was you.

Engraved on the bark was KH<3JS.
Seven years has passed, and it was still there, together with some new engravings around it.
Still, it remained there, not moving.
Just like your memories of him.
You were still longing for that kind of love - pure, innocent - like the one that you used to have with him.
But once was enough, you thought. You vowed to yourself that you would never love someone as much as you love yourself.

You stood outside the church, watching the ceremony from afar.
You saw him holding his bride’s hand, and you wished you were the one holding him.
You saw him putting a ring on his bride’s finger, and you wished you were the one putting the ring on him.
You saw him kissing his bride, and you wished you were the one kissing him lovingly.
You saw him saying something to his bride, and you cried, for you were hoping that he would say those precious three words to you.
END.
