Morning ladies and fanfolks :D (Well, it's almost afternoon here) I am posting early for two reasons - 1) I am going out. and 2) MOAR TIME FOR FICTIONS!!! which is always a good thing.
This is my final DPP this week and it is, indeed, yes, it is, a FIC MEME. An IN CANON fic meme inspired by some of the comments from the week's DPP discussions, and

when the well runs dryHe's had too much to drink, of that he's absolutely certain. Kara's poorly stifled giggles are tickling the inside of his ear, her breath warm on the side of his face. She smells like too much ambrosia covered up with the bitter stench of whatever it is that passes for coffee these days. She's farther gone than he is ( ... )

I'm going to use an odd word to describe this story... This has the 'canter' of an older fandom fic, but with the pacing (of angst) that the newer ones have. I love it for this. Because as much as there is light and humour, there's all the dark secrets there too, and THAT is what makes me want to read more.
Random: Why aren't you writing an epic, girl? Where is your 100K fic? *taps foot* And no, I'm not joking in the least.
Bravo! K :>D

I guess that strange mixture is what comes of writing early season pilots in full knowledge of the whole story, like going back and watching it knowing what's going to happen, you can ascribe meaning to situations where before they were just there. I can't, however, claim that I did it on purpose...this was kind of a twenty minute job without much analysis given, so happy circumstance rather than any kind of skill made it this way, but I'm glad you liked it!
I am writing a semi-epic - I don't think I'll ever write a Kag-length epic, I just don't have that kind of narrative foresight or the ability to tell a really plot based story, I'm not that good.
But I am currently writing probably the longest thing I will ever have written (once it is wrote), it's being sidelined while i work on my Presents assignment, which is also turning out mildly epic. But my epic, my baby, is currently at about 12K and it's maybe a fifth done, maybe a bit more than that, it's a very ( ... )

Seriously, this is so amazing. The way you've captured their UST, their friendship, the way they're so connected, and drunk!pilots, it's just perfection. (I have a special love of fics set in early canon, when it was just pilots, before all the other bullshit started getting in the way, and you just made my weekend). Thank you for filling the prompt, and doing it so beautifully!

bb me too! They are so young and beautiful and honestly think that the worst shit that is ever going to happen to them has ALREADY HAPPENED so they're kind of, free, in a way that they aren't in the later seasons. I mean, I love them all the way through, and the fic set in later seasons tends to be the more interesting, character driven, really get stuck right in and dig around and learn something fic, but early pilots are so good for when you just want to see them interact without restrictions. :D

*sigh* this exactly. They're in a lot less pain, the weight of the world hasn't quite settled on their shoulders, and there is the certainty that no matter how bad things get, they have each other (this is before they realise they're capable of hurting each other in ways that even the apocalypse can't manage, and before bad marriages and Cylon dollhouses and deaths).
I also love pilots all the way through - I'm probably one of the few fans alive who actually thinks their last scene was kind of ok, as a farewell - but later seasons didn't give them nearly enough screentime just being happy, and S4 pretty much gave them almost none (in Kara's case, I think it was actually none).

*shakes your hand* hi, I'm the other one of those :D I don't hate the poof in terms of their relationship, it's not my favourite storytelling thing that RDM has ever done because I kind of feel like Kara as a character deserved more than that, and Tara and I had this conversation somewhere, I think on her journal, about how she was kind of fridged in season 4 in order for them to get the story to where they wanted it to go, which I'm not a fan of, but as a last scene for the two of them, I actually think it's ok. They were never going to have a happy ending, so I kind of like that they don't really have an ending at all. If that makes sense. I'm not really a fan of endings in general, I prefer things to just stop rather than end, but I'm probably in the minority on that one.

It's like, she actually said her goodbyes to everyone else, but she couldn't quite manage it for him and my fannish heart says it's not because she didn't love him, it's because he meant too much. At least that's the interpretation I go with (that and the "see you on the other side" in Maelstrom-induced hopefulness). But yeah, watching early pilots after being faced with the knowledge of later seasons, they just make me want to scoop them up and lock them away somewhere safe (together of course, in the hope that maybe they'll frak each other's brains out and not be able to do a runner this time).
