Marathon ambitions

OK, so those of you who know me IRL know that I have been spouting off about running -- and finishing -- a marathon by the end of next year. As in, by the end of 2007. =) I figure if I tell enough people about it, I will be too embarassed to not go through with it (shame is a powerful motivator ( Read more... )

Weeklies: I leisurely jog about 20-30 mins on Mondays, I've been trying sprint work on Wednesdays, and if I'm lucky I get in another 2-3 miler before my weekender. The weekend runs are anywhere from 10-20 miles.

Flats or hills: I live by the beach, so I don't have too many choices. I get in a couple of hills where I can. There's a mean one that goes from the Pallisades into Brentwood. I rikee.

Water: My rule of thumb... less than 10k (6.2mi), I can get by without. More than 10k, bring water. Though I had to work up to that. Your mileage may vary. I suggest a water belt. Especially for longer distances. I'm happy with my AmphipodShoes: MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT YOU WILL OWN. Nothing is worse than running with the wrong shoes. You'll get aches, pains, all sorts of weird shit happens when your feet hit the ground the wrong way a few dozen-thousand times an hour. Mirzu knows my shpiel. Go to a shop that caters to runners. Have them check out the way your foot pronates, the height of your arches, how your feet angle, etc. Running ( ... )
