Necessity is the Mother of Invention [Open]

By three o'clock on Saturday afternoon, Kiba had to admit that he probably wasn't going to start making millions on his dogsled that weekend. Unless you counted millions as the number of times he'd dropped nails on the floor, banged his thumb with a hammer, glued his fingers together, shoved Akamaru's curious nose away from the mess of wood and newspaper in the middle of the living room, glued himself to Akamaru, and swore.

The sled was actually turning out fairly well, if you took into account the materials he had to work with. After two hours of work he'd managed to figure out a method for building the body of the sled. The skis weren't perfect runners, but they were decent, and the wood-glue Ukitake had supplied had made a heck of a difference in the way Kiba was able to use scrap wood and a pair of broken chairs to build the sled basket.

Unfortunately, it looked nothing like the sleek, swift sleds he'd seen and used out in the country. Akamaru would still be able to pull it, he hoped; it was sturdy but light, and it would fit one or two (small) kids fairly comfortably. It was also incredibly ugly, but there wasn't much he could do about that.

"Too bad Tenten and Tayuya didn't come over after all," he told Akamaru, returning the lid to the tub of wood glue and rocking back on his heels to study the sled. "I'd've stunned 'em with my fabulous building skills. Or lack of 'em." He pried at a splinter in his finger, frowning. Shikamaru was either at the park or still sleeping, and Chouji was out again; all morning it had been just him and Akamaru shut up in the apartment, and as much as he loved his dog and was excited about his project, someone who could talk back would've been nice...
