Whilst I'm worried about the recession I also see it as an opportunity to reform the finance industry and maybe even make the distribution of wealth a little more rational.

Me too. It's actually gotten me interested in economics again!

I reckon a couple of years of contraction.

But I also think that it's been a tipping point for global finance, and will be seen as the beginning of the next phase of change in financial power from the first world to the developing world.

I ticked "I'm not worried about it" mostly because there are things I worry about more: energy security, climate change, unaccountable censorship and other threats to civil liberties.

I am jolly impressed with all the people who know how long the recession is going to last!

I don't think anyone's claiming to know, but you can take a guess. My guess is that a financial crisis on that level, plus the thorougly ineffective responses by government mean that the economy won't recover for some time.

Probably start to see things improve in 2010, but likely to be another couple of years after that to see full recover. So somewhere in 2011 and 2012 to full recovery and hopefully better position to where we were before.
