The only other shows besides Glee that I watch regularly are Mad Men, Dexter, and Grey's Anatomy (because I just can't seem to quit this stupid show)
Books? It depends... I always recommend anything by David Sedaris to people because you really can't go wrong with him in my opinion. I also personally love Midnight's Children, The Brief and Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, and Middlesex but please note that I'm a lit student who is really into post-modern fiction and the first three play around a lot with structure or language or magical realism, so if you're into that kind of stuff you'll love them, but otherwise tread carefully.
I'd recommend "I am not myself these days" by Josh Kilmer-Purcell if you like the book description. It's really funny and absurd and also heartwarming and tender believe it or not.
Books! I love a good book! The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, Water for Elephants, anything by Laurie Notaro for some good humor, The Help, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon.
