Hey, Talking With The Taxman About Poetry! Bragg is great.
I really want to read s'more Thompson. I have a copy of Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail, but I haven't ever had time to read it.
The Tom Waits box is excellent in every possible way. Bastards is particularly disconcerting, and every song on Brawlers has all the rhythm of an oil rig right in the middle of a wildlife preserve, operated by bleary-eyed trolls who collect old jazz records for a hobby.
I have a book to recommend to you: The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon. It is about paranoia, drugs, conspiracy, perception, and . . . um . . . Jacobean revenge plays. Also, the postal system. And one of the characters is named Manny Di Presso.
Good enough that I've decided to write my Literary Analysis thesis this year on his early works.
Yeah, really good. I've only read Lot 49 and a sliver of V., but his prose is just totally wonderfully bizarre, and his characters are excellent, and his plots are somewhere between historical realism and something like an inordinately bad drug trip.
peyote-swilling psychopath of an English teacher and all.
ahahahahah...I don't like her any more than you do, but I don't think she's always as off base as you think she is. Occasionally she says some interesting/true things.

Fuck that. I'll just wait until next time so I can see them for free. I might try and show up tomorrow night.
