Who, exactly, works in the engine room? Now believe me, I get that this isn't a Starfleet ship, but we were almost always short a hand on Voyager when things blew up, [Lol literally] and I can't believe two people are holding down the fort. I want a look around engineering.

[Private to Paddy]Since I doubt McCullen's actually talked to you like I ( Read more... )

[PLEASANTLY SURPRISED.] Oh. Well good. How has he been?

Well. How do I put this?

He's kinda trying? But I kinda get the impression he really ain't into this doing a proper job thing. Well, manual labour kinda shit, I guess.

No worries, I'll keep poking him with a stick until he tolerates it, if nothin' else.

That's about what I expected. And that's all I can ask for, really. I think he needs the hard work.

[There are so many ways he could react to this. From the melodramatic 'oh really?' to the dry 'I've noticed' but by the time he activates the communicator, he finds he's not in the mood. So equally blunt it is.] No, you do not.

[And despite the fact that she started the blunt routine, she has to pull back her annoyance at him answering the same.] You do. [She's getting around to asking for help. It might take a while. :|]

I have served in the Forces for decades. I have a routine.

What does that have to do with it?

As it happens, we lost one of our engineering staff a little while ago. I've got no problem with giving you the tour and I doubt Harper would either.

[Oh cool she was expecting an argument. BEST NEWS OF THE DAY, TOSH. C:] ...Great. Are you free?

Absolutely. Although Harper has more experience with large engine systems like this, he might be better equipped to talk you through.

[It's not like Tosh doesn't know everything Harper does about the Barge's engines. She's just slightly wary of new people. :c ]

[By new people have awesome tool kits and hyperspanners. :c] I'm talking to him now. If you can let me in, I can take a look.

[And a pause, because she knows how obscenely protective she is of her engine room. :|] Promise not to touch anything.

An engineer? I do hope you're not one of the goblin variety.

It's a school of engineering on Azeroth.

Usually involving explosions.

Then it's a bad school.

I got plenty of practice single handedly holding down the fort on a High Guard Glorious Heritage Class Heavy Cruiser, that was intent on waging war on the entire known universe for four years. This is actually kind of a step down on the 'engineering against all odds' scales.

[And now that he's got his bragging about what a genius he is and what a pretty ship he used to live on out of the way...]

But yeah, there's one or the other of us down here most of the time, so feel free to drop in and have a look around.

[...Okay she might respect him a bit more now. WELL DONE HARPER.] Sounds like you've got some stories to trade.

Someone - I'm guessing Toshiko - offered me a tour, I'm going to take her up on the offer.

[Years of trying to uphold the moral code of a universal force for peace in a hideous lawless galaxy? These guys probably could trade some good stories.]

That's true of pretty much everyone on board. My stories just happen come with really nice tech.

Yep, that'd be Tosh, don't break anything I wouldn't break down there.

[Now if only they had a campfire...]

That's what makes them interesting.

I'm going to assume that means don't break anything important. There's another warden on board who would want to take a look. Mind if he tags along?
