It was certainly not a medical coma in any way. It was like sleep-- a long, untroubled sleep, with elements of physiological stasis to prevent muscular decay and other unwanted bodily functions ( Read more... )

[Wait, why is she asking him? Friendship? Still don't really get that.]

I am. I have a made a brief report regarding the current situation, I can include you on the filter, if you wish to see it.

[Not-- friendship. That's such a wishy washy word. How about 'appreciation of another person's style and grasp of superiority'. Something like that. Yes, that's much better than 'friendship'.]

Please. I have seen no contact for some time from several of my acquaintances and any information would be appreciated.

[Yes. That's basically what his relationship with Lady Atia is all about, except for the part where she reminds him of his mother and let's not get into that.]

I shall do so, then. I find it all rather concerning.

[Rassilon, fortunately, is nothing like Vasilia's father or they wouldn't be nonfriends. 7 resembles Fastolfe a bit but somehow she doesn't hate him either.]

How unpleasant. How arbitrary and unbearable! I fail to understand how anyone can continue to argue that this place might be rehabilitative.

You'd rather sleep your term away than involve yourself, in some capacity, on this ship?

Given that waking life is largely comprised of homesickness and paranoia-- that should please you, that I admit you were right in any sense-- yes. Yes, sleep was kind. I awoke with a brief sense of balance and satiation, as if all were well and I might be in my Estate again.

But how, pray tell, do you desire me to involve myself? I have a few potential projects among my acquaintances but they are not intended to be for the good of anyone but ourselves.

My, sleep was much less pleasant. Perhaps each of us reacts to them in differing ways. The sleep of the dead, and then an unusual measure of disorientation upon waking, in case you were wondering.

Ah. How can you involve yourself. [Claps hands together]. I'm so glad you asked. It has come to my attention that inmates are required to help out in some capacity on the barge. So... any preferences as to your new job?

[Ugh, she thought she'd managed to avoid this somehow.]

Nothing involving food or treating people. Are there positions in the laboratory? Even the engine room, while my concentration of studies has been largely logic based I have a rudimentary understanding of mechanical and mechatronic principle.

I'm alive. Angry. But well.

You were among the missing. Is it over? Is everyone recovered?

We are. We might not of been if I hadn't resorted to biting like a savage. But sometimes one is forced to fight however they can.

[Her eeeew face]

Your instincts, they guide you to this? I could not-- I could never taste another person's skin or blood. It is vile.

I'm well... now that I've been rescued by the warden cavalry.

I was kidnapped by some lunatic who was trying to tell me it was for my own good. And now my projects have been set back by a few days. [THIS IS CLEARLY THE GREATEST CRIME OF ALL.]

How long have you been awake?

Only about an hour. I'm finding standing difficult, still, but there are a least places to sit.

Yes, Doctor. After the bit of news I just got, I believe I will be just fine. Are you all right now? I have not been in a coma yet but they seem most unnerving.

The aftereffects have not been uniformly pleasant, but for a moment on waking there was a sense of such peace and calm.

But you have good news?

A matter of Barge justice. The man who tried to make my former Bride look like a murderer has been caught. It provides a certain sense of closure.
