005; エ-スはどんな人なんだろう?

Since Abe-kun and Haruna-shishou have been posting their thoughts, I thought that it's possible that someone might, maybe, be interested in reading some of what I think. But nobody has to read it, I wrote this because it's on my mind a lot, so, you can skip it, too! It may be full of mistakes, but it's what I've come to believe about pitching.

What kind of person is an Ace? )

journal, ace

I think you've got something there.

Aah! Oda-kun, you were really intimidating when I was on the mound. I couldn't believe you'd close your eyes. I was really shocked!

You don't gotta think like that. I was the one who was scared, swinging at a pitch I couldn't see. You were amazing up there.

Not an ace?! Ren, you've been an ace since middle school. I don't care what anyone else says.

It's normal to be a little nervous when you're up against really good batters. The trick is not to show it. And even if you do, your team is there to back you up (or should be). Even an ace doesn't have to carry the whole game on his shoulders. It's true that the pitcher's attitude has an effect on the rest of the team, but it works the other way around too.

The rest, I agree with.

Anyway, point is you ARE an ace.

I wasn't an ace at Mihoshi, Shuu-chan. We weren't playing baseball, then, we were killing it. Nobody could be proud of those games, and I wasn't strong or brave or kind, and I was completely hopeless, and totally selfish and stubborn then.

Being nervous isn't the same as being intimidated, I think. A person can be nervous but still believe they can do it. When you're intimidated, you're doubting yourself, and that never works.

Still, I'm glad you think I'm a worthy rival, even if I'm not an ace yet. I can't wait to play against you again!

That wasn't your fault. You did everything you could have to win. I know it. If the rest of the guys had tried as hard as you did we'd have had a strong team. Your drive to win and your perseverance made you an ace.

And, okay, you have a point there.

Honestly, Ren, you're the one I measure myself against as a pitcher. You're an ace and a worthy rival.

You shouldn't hold those times against them anymore. We all made mistakes, I think.

Playing against you really changed my baseball, and the way I'm trying to play. Shuu-chan, you're my one true rival. I won't acknowledge any other!

Mihashi, this is great! Really great!

You may not think you're an ace yet, but according to your definition, I think you are. I think our game against Bijou dai Sayama was a perfect example of that- I don't think you fully realized your mission as an ace until partway that game- and especially when you had to... compensate for where I'd failed you.

You were very brave. You have always been brave. You get on the mound every time, no matter what. That has not changed.

But you've become strong. I watched you and... I think it's amazing. There were times when, though you'd never stop pitching, you'd be scared. And the team would also become fearful. But halfway through the Bijou game, you really rallied them. I think you were still scared, but you didn't act like it. And that was what changed! You acted strong, and the whole team saw it and knew there was no reason to be scared. It made me happy to see you being so strong. And also a little sad that I was not strong for you ( ... )

It makes me really, really happy that you think this way, but... I can't think that I'm there yet. I want to become stronger. I want to not be afraid or intimidated, and I want to be strong for you and the team. I feel like, with Abe-kun at Home, I'm much stronger on the mound. I want to get better on the field, but I also want to be able to be that strong when I'm not playing baseball. That might be more difficult for me ( ... )

E...heh...Mihashi, you really raise me up too much, but thank you. I want us to become stronger together too. Even if you quit baseball right now and never came back, I would never regret being your catcher.

I do have to mention, though, that I die a little inside every time you call Haruna shishou.

Haruna-san isn't as bad as you say, Abe-kun.

He knows a lot about fastballs, and about training to improve them, and to know a person like that and not learn from them I think would be cheating the team out of a better ace. I shouldn't say it like that, though, because the truth is that I want to have a more powerful straight. I want to throw something fast, and I want it even though you said it could be difficult and that we don't need it.

Even though your battery with him was broken, I won't let the battery we're building end up like that. I can be better, and he's kind been enough to say he'll help me. I can't be a pitcher like Haruna-san, I know, but because he knows so much about the kind of pitching I admire, I think it'd be wrong of me not to try to learn from him as much as I can.

I'll try not to call him shishou that when I talk to you? I don't want you to feel something like that.

Sorry. I know you admire his fastballs. I'll try not to let my past with him interfere with your training. It's selfish of me to force my complexes on you. I should be doing as good a job of protecting the emotional integrity of our battery as you are.

...but yeah if you just wanna hold off on the shishou while you're talking to me, that wouldn't hurt.

You know what I would find veyr interesting, Mihashi?

You've posted your thought on what a good pitcher is. But what about catchers?
Would you make a post about what you think makes a good catcher? Akimaru-san and Riou-kun might appreciate input from the other side of the plate as well.

If you really want to read it, I'll try to write something that is worth reading... for a catcher to read, about catchers.
