[Upon arriving, Sephiroth had remained calm. He is trained to operate independently in the field and to deal with crisis situations. Panic and confusion would only hamper him. It takes a great deal to make him behave erratically or emotionally. He'd decided to conduct his own investigations before addressing the community as a whole ( Read more... )

he sure is a fun guy, just your average supersoldier, not troubled or anything

Apologies in advance, Sephiroth. I don't recognize any of the places or names you mentioned. I can, however, tell you you're in a pocket dimension called The City. And there is, annoyingly enough, no way out.

[She is also mannerly, if a bit quick with how she speaks.]

In any case, I appreciate the response.

I did speak to a man who mentioned this "pocket dimension" phenomenon. If I understand correctly, people are pulled in, but can never leave? And none know the reason we are here, though there are so-called "gods" who claim responsibility?

[Though he heard most of this from Jack, it's always good to receive confirmation rather than relying on a singular source.]

You're welcome. And that's pretty much the extent of it. Did anyone explain the Ticking to you?

No. I did hear it myself, but I couldn't locate the source of the sound.

[At least it's an actual noise, and not one he imagined. That's some consolation.]

Straight... curt... to the point... no charms or smiles or begging to spare?

None at all. I fail to see how any of those behaviors would serve me at the present time.

[Not that he ever begs, and few are the people who can coax a genuine smile from him.]

Why, it would make you ever more endearing. A puppet of a man. We'll... we'll find you strings, and of course a tidy gown - of course, the leather might have to go, but never you mind that. Braids for your hair, or...?

[His usually high tolerance levels are rather low at the moment, but he doesn't see why he would expend any energy in response to such nonsense.]

I have no interest in being endearing, let alone a puppet, so that won't be necessary. Thank you for your concern. [By which he means the opposite.]

[ It's video, though Ariadne looks a bit worse for wear; her eyes are a bit red and her hair's a mess. It looks remarkably like she just got out of bed after crying. For all that, her voice is remarkably steady. ]

Let me send you the guide. It's a bit outdated, but it's useful.

I'm Ariadne, by the way.

[He notices the state she's in, but he quickly decides it would be impolitic to mention it.]

Thank you. [He glances at the file.] This looks quite useful. I'll have to read it thoroughly. Is there any particular section that's outdated?

A pleasure, Ariadne. [He inclines his head.]

[ She's grateful for that. ]

The resident breakdown. That's from... three years ago, now.

[ There's a slight smile and a nod. ]

Three years. [The idea of spending that long here does not appeal. He pauses to glance at that part of the file.] I heard there's no way out, yet there's a reference to constant comings and goings.

How long have you been here, if I may ask?

Jump in and drown, soldier.

[There's no bite to her voice, no humor either. Just tired, and she's not one who really likes to ask for assistance, let alone give it.]

[Sephiroth is about as emotional in his response to this as he is in all his responses--not very.

Assistance and intelligence would be helpful, but they are not neccesary. He can gather his own intelligence, so it makes no difference to him.]

If you're referring to the fountain, I believe it's rather shallow for that purpose. [Though he knows she doesn't mean that at all. He's rather weary himself.]

You'd have to really try.

[Go for the gold.]

One hundred and ten percent.

I'm afraid I'll have to admit defeat before I've begun, as it's a pointless challenge, and one with little reward. I'll leave it for another to try.

But your support is noted.
