Re: Question for foxfirefey:foxfirefeyApril 24 2010, 03:52:34 UTC
I don't think so, as I'm not having that problem, but you'll break the site if you let LJ run scripts without blocking the affiliate link script, but block scripts from other sites. And even if you don't block any scripts, having it run can slow down your clicking.

Links are freezing on me on LJ without ad-blocking anything at all - in any part of any page in site-scheme within anything you might call "entry-content" or "comment-content". I have to right-click/open in new tab to get around it. I don't have NoScript installed, either. Could this be another issue related to the script?

I'd (very politely) open up a Support Request about it, just noting what problem you have. Make sure you note what browser you are using (with any plug ins), the effects you are experiencing, etc. You don't have to speculate on the cause. Don't expect an answer back right away--Support is really overwhelmed right now, but the more people do that, the greater the chance that things might get fixed.
It does sound like something that could be related to this, if you are not using the opt out. Before you go to another link, the script wants to check with a third party to see if it should replace that URL with an affiliate one, and that could cause lag.

OK, one more time, sorry - I wish I could edit comments to keep this simpler: I had to unblock media6degrees.com *and* outboundlink to get link functionality back. Seriously, what are they doing that adblock breaks link functionality? That's just not right.

What I can't figure out is why those sites were blocked by ABP; if they're on Rick's filter list or if I added them in myself; I can't recall adding them but anything's possible. But what's weird is first I unblocked outbound, but links I clicked in entry-content/comment-content areas still wouldn't work. So I kept outbound unblocked, unblocked media6degrees as well, and voila, links worked normally again. Is this deliberate on their part?

Does what that post says mean ad-blocking the script will break the site? Just want to be clear about it before I go ahead and do so... :)
