[What was that? Guilt? Yeaaah perhaps a bit, actually, but Cooper doesn't think that's why they're here.]

If the idea of retribution for guilty actions is a world like this, I feel much calmed at the idea of karma.

[Because the idea of this as a punishment just doesn't strike him. Yeah, sure, there were a few unsettling things, but it could have been far far worse. Oh, and:]

... I haven't seen a lot of movies, but the effects did advance. I'm sure someone else could answer that question better.

Well, maybe retribution isn't the right word. What I mean is... maybe it's somewhere that we're sent in order to come to terms with that guilt.

That seems more plausible. But if that was the case, don't you think it would be designed to such a purpose?

It seems to be desiged pretty well for it, really. I mean, it's done it to at least one person I met already.

It ain't karma.

I did my time for anything sucky I might've done, ever.

[And that's all Heather's gonna say on that front. She's got guilt, sure-- but she also knows that the hell she went through in Silent Hill is more than she or anybody else could ever deserve for whatever transgressions she might have made, in this life or any other.]

On the bright side, effects?

Holy shit, man, you have so much to look forward to, dude.

That good, huh? [He sounds pleased.] I thought it couldn't get much better, but it sounds pretty good from the way you're speaking.

[Science fiction and giant robots. His two favourite things.]

Oh, hell yeah. [Heather's not even really into science fiction, but she knows eyecandy when she sees it.] You? Haven't seen anything yet, old man. Just wait.

[And it's a shame she's a couple years too young for Avatar to have come out, because you bet she'd be pimping it to Huey like burning. Science fiction, giant robots, and a wheelchair-bound hero! It's like they made it just for him!]

Man, I am so impatient for the future to come. Just so I can see this.

[Huey would probably have adored that movie if he'd known it existed. As it was, he was excited as can be.]

The effects in movies these days are phenomenal -- especially compared to 70's technology.

Really? That good? I mean, the effects in 2001: A Space Oddysey were phenomenal. I didn't think they could top them.

No one thought they could be better than Star Wars, either, they've only improved since then. Effects that were used in 70's films even get used on normal television shows, sometimes.

...what's "Star Wars"?

[Huey just sounds blank.]

Karmic...?

...no, I don't think that's the case.

I guess not. Although it would make sense. Everyone here seems to have guilt over something or other.

If it was retribution, we'd be paying for what we'd done somehow. Most people seem generally happy with what they have here as far as I can tell.

Well, I mean more like... forcing people to come to terms with things than actually punishing them.

Special Effects have gotten so awesome! I mean, most of the stuff's done on computers so you can get some really neat effects. Not to mention I keep hearing rumors about them making full 3D films.

[circa. 2008 so he may have heard something about Avatar-]

3D? What do you mean, full 3D films? [His interest is piqued!]

Like 3-dimensional, and not just the lousy kind, but a full feature length one. Back home, there was one that was coming out next year...or this year?

I've never seen a 3-dimensional film before, even the "lousy kind".
