this weekend i learned of the existence of iris wildthyme, a character from the non-canonical doctor who audio plays, novels, and short stories and it totally blew my mind. i could have just said she was from the whoniverse but that sounds queer as fuck. in some of the audio plays, this character is played by katy manning, a former companion to ( Read more... )

in the movie she makes some brief comments on the nature of racism and the double standards people have when it comes to certain racial epithets. i mean, she doesn't go very in depth since it's not a lecture but it's something at least. i just didn't think her jokes were very clever after a while and she had this song about old people that i thought was pretty stupid and offensive, since i've become kind of sensitive about mocking the elderly. i mean, that's so least common denominator, you know?
