Commercializing Diseases

This might be a strange question, but I'll give it a try. Does your disease/health problem/disability have a logo or a slogan? If so, do you like it or dislike it? Do you even care ( Read more... )

Fibro has a purple ribbon, which is also associated with several cancers so I feel sort of odd about using it. I mean I obviously hope those cancers will have cures someday too, but...I'd like it to be something a bit MORE noticeable and specific. I do have some welsh lovespoon earrings that I sometimes like to wear. As an aspie, I used to like the puzzle piece autistic spectrum logo but then I really learned about what autisim speaks does and don't want to be associated with them either.

I think the UK multiple sclerosis society has a logo, as organisations do, but I don't recall what the logo looks like. It doesn't seem very important, for me personally.

I don't know any logo associated with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). I know of exactly one organization related with HS and I don't particularly like their logo:

Autism has a puzzle piece, and sometimes a ribbon made up of puzzle pieces. I hate it, and few people seem to understand why I hate it. One autistic person told me, "It's to represent how we all fit together like pieces in a puzzle!" Um, no, it isn't. The official explanation behind the puzzle piece is that non-autistic people find autistic people to be a puzzle. I am not a puzzle. I am a person. We really need a better symbol.

Diabetes is apparently represented by a blue circle, but that really doesn't make any sense to me, and I doubt many people would recognize it if they saw it. Every year there's a push to get a blue circle as a Google doodle for World Diabetes Day, but I'm pretty sure Google doesn't do disease doodles.
