flaxseed wash update, anniversary, and i kinda fell off the wagon.

it had been about 2.5 months since i first started using the flax mucilage stuff. (and yesterday was my 3 year anniversary of no'poo. yaaay!)

since my last post on jan 28th, i had stopped using ACV, because i thought that might have been linked, and my dandruff isn't really getting any better. (and i've also noticed a bunch of hair loss at the ( Read more... )

i've put tea tree directly on my scalp (whether in a rinse or using my fingertips) with no real visible effects on the dandruff.

also i had used dr. bronners a few years ago, (i may have used too much) and it freaked my hair out reeeeeal bad. it took over a month for my hair to behave.

besides, i have hard water. i've used dr. bronners on my skin and i got a film. i don't want that to happen to my scalp.

as for ACV. i'd rather not. i want to get my dandruff/hair loss problem in check before i try ACV again.

also, if i used a spray bottle, i will die from needing to squeeze the trigger so many times. the squeezy bottle is perfectly fine for me.

also, i don't want to offend you or anything, but are you getting paid by dr. bronners to mention it all over the web? it seems to be the only answer you give people. ever. and well.... it's not exactly no 'poo. sure, it's not a detergent in the scientific sense, but it does sudz, and i know it makes me uncomfortable to read your recommendations. i'm sure it makes other people ( ... )

Do you mind if I ask why you stopped using shikakai? I've been using it for a couple of months and really liking it. I started after reading your description of it and then I noticed that you had switched to flaxseed mucilage so I was wondering if you were doing that because as the mod you want to have a good understanding of all the different no 'poo methods or whether it was because flax seed wash was actually more effective/better (at least for you) or if there was something about shikakai you didn't like.

Of course, based on this post I think I'll probably be sticking with shikakai. :)

oh, no. i just ran out of it. :-) i live in NJ, but the only place i know of where to find it is in west philly, and i'm not over there all that often.

i'm still on the lookout for indian groceries over here. i do think i may have seen one near the indie movie theatre we go to. (but of course we were in a rush so i couldn't scope it out) i hope i can check it out soon. i'm getting antsy. :-)

(but yeah, i guess i did want to try the new method. just for the experience. it was wonderful there for a little while, but then each week it'd get waxier and waxier.)

I'm not sure where you are in NJ-- I know there is some sort of indian grocery on Berlin Rd in Cherry Hill, and at least one in Princeton Junction. I haven't been to either of them, but... they're there! I was looking for an asian grocery and just typed "asian grocery" into Google maps, and voila! An entire list. Try it out with indian groceries!

i just went there earlier today! (that's the one i thought might be an indian grocery store by the name when we were driving to the ritz movie theatre. they have it!!! (i was going to update this post with my findings. hehe. you read my mind. the place is called subzi mandi.)

i got the last box of shikakai for 1.99. yeah! and they had jamila henna too.
(and i also got a big sack of red lentils for 1.12/lb yeah! and 100 g of cardamom for 4.99. hehe. i'm so happy.)

I tried the flax mucilage around New Years also and I found that it made my hair very shiny and manageable and also worked well as a heat protection when I straightened it. However it is way too heavy to use for every wash. When I used flax alone I would get alot of sebum build up that left a mess on the brush and on my hands after a while. I've started alternating Flax mucilage with BS/WV every other wash and my scalp is much happier, but my length is a bit more flyaway/less defined.
