In-Game Character Information
Name: Tsunade Senju
Series: Naruto
Age: 53 (uses an anti-aging charm to look to be in her early 20s)

Personality:

Tsunade is the physical embodiment of the "Tough Love" philosophy. She's often very blunt, antagonistic, and isn't afraid of leaving a negative impression on people. She doesn't suffer excuses, and when she wants something done she demands people to meet her expectations. She's a very commanding presence, and can be intimidating at times. It's on a rare occasion that she offers praise or compliments to a person, but when she does it is entirely sincere. Even though Tsunade doesn't often show affection, she does care deeply for people and is willing to make sacrifices for their sakes.

However dismissive Tsunade is of trivial, tedious tasks such as paperwork and diplomatic discussion, she has a very impressive set of leadership skills. She knows how to take charge of situations, and when she gives orders people tend to listen. Tsunade commands respect, and even those who may not like her know that she's not one to trifle with and that her opinions, advice, and inputs should be listened to.

Tsunade also has a hell of a temper. Often she conveys said temper with her fists, although occasionally (VERY occasionally) she will restrain herself.

She's also a 'legendary sucker', in that she's very poor with managing money and has a rather nasty gambling addiction. Tsunade loves to take risks, but she often doesn't do well with them and lacks the skill and luck to gamble successfully. She's so bad at gambling that every time she wins she considers it to be a bad omen.

She's also a fan of sake, especially if she has lemon drops for the after taste.

Background:

Tsunade is the last known living member of the Senju clan, a very old, prestiguous family that made their marks on the wizarding world not only through their excellent duelling skills but also their founder (Hashirama, Tsunade's grandfather)'s talents in herbology. She was spoiled as a child, having a healthy homelife and excelling at all areas of schoolwork, with a sort of arrogant attitude that earned her the nickname "Princess" growing up.

After graduating from school, Tsunade trained to become an Auror for the Ministry of Magic, and it was soon discovered that she had not only a killer right hook (as her old friend and noted peeping tom Jiraiya would testify) but also an aptitude towards healing and medicinal magic. She quickly earned respect and renown for her skills at neutralizing poisons, and doing complex healing spells in the midst of duels.

However, while Tsunade was making a name for herself as a witch, she heard the terrible news that her younger brother, Nawaki, was killed in a horrible accident at school, that was suspected to do with a student using dark magic. Nawaki's death left a mark on Tsunade, and she became a strong advocate against the dark arts, throwing herself into Auror training and demanding better healing and medicinal educational programs at the schools and Ministry. It was through her crusade that she met Dan, the man that she almost married.

Dan, like Tsunade, was a Auror, one whose dream was to wipe dark magic away forever, and Tsunade became enamored with him. The two started dating, and Tsunade was starting to pick up the pieces of her life before Dan was killed by a dark wizard in the line of duty. Tsunade was with Dan at the time, and as she tried to force her magic to heal him, her mind imprinted the sight of his blood on her hands, making Tsunade develop a phobia that would haunt her the rest of her life.

After Dan's death, Tsunade took his niece, Shizune on as an apprentice and began traveling the wizarding world as a hermit, developing a large gambling addiction and subsequent large debt as she journeyed. Her nomadic lifestyle was going to be interrupted, however, when her old friend and colleague Jiraiya suggested her for the Professor of Health and Medical Magic at Hogwarts, her alma mater, to Headmaster Cid. After a very complicated and long series of persuasion, Tsunade reluctantly accepted the position.

EXTENDED BACKGROUND

After teaching at Hogwarts for a few weeks, Tsunade was called away to assist the Department of Health by the Ministry of Magic. While away, she continued instructed those who had expressed desire to be apprenticed to her (Delita Heiral and Sakura Haruno) by Owl, often assigning homework and reading scrolls to exemplify their ciricular. When working for the Ministry, Tsunade also helped train several new Healers at St. Mungo's before deciding that her efforts would be better spent filling the recently vacated staff position of Health and Medical Magic back at Hogwarts.

Blood: Full blood, and current head/heir of the Senju family.

Preferred House: Gryffindor
Why you think they belong in this house?

Gryffindor would also be a nice fit due to Tsunade's brash, confrontational style of dealing with problems. Often, she's not one for subtlety, and she's got a strong fighter's spirit.

Staff Position: Health and Medical Magic
Why you think they fit this position?

Tsunade would be absolutely perfect for this position for a variety of reasons. In canon, she's known for her medical techniques and is considered the best healer in Konohagakure (her home village) if not the entire ninja world. She's also been shown as a teaching figure, as demonstrated by her instruction of not only Shizune but later Sakura.

If Professor would you want them to be Head of House?

Tsunade would make a great Head of House, in canon she's the leader of her village and is often shown to make sound decisions and to hold up under pressure.

Roleplay Samples

Journal Sample:

It seems I leave for a few months and already the lessons are behind. I don't want to hear any excuses, I don't care if you were off doing chorus lines or turning into a toddler, I came back here to do my job and it would be in everyone's best interest to let me do it. Don't think for even a second that my being regulated to seminars for St. Mungo's means that I've gotten soft. Your grades will suffer for it.

Haruno. Heiral. My office, immediately. Let's see how well you've been slacking off in my absence.

[locked to staff]

Who's up for drinks this weekend? Turns out Ministry members only buy the cheap stuff.

Roleplay Sample: (third person)

Tsunade's hands rested comfortably on her hips as she stood at the front of the classroom, a piece of chalk levitating behind her as it crawled along the blackboard, doing detailed notes on the anatomical structures of a human's magical flow network.

"And as you can see, there are several points along the body where magic is harnessed in a more condensed manner than others. Such as here-" the chalk screeched to a halt along the wrists, "-and here," it moved to hover over the mouth, "Which is why, when spell casting, we use magical conductors that have direct contact with the hands and incantations that are chanted out of the mouth. Any ideas why this might be crucial information to any student wanting to pursue the Healers' arts?"

A hand went up, Tsunade gave a sharp nod.

"So we can, um," the third year wilted a little under Tsunade's harsh stare, "Learn how to...um...reserve it?"

Tsunade began to march along the front, "Close. If the Healer knows these points, they can not only manage their own magical flow, but also use that of the injured person's to help with the assist. Naturally, this is magic far more complicated than anything you'll ever see in the next decade, but it never hurts to be mindful."

She nodded, "Dismissed."

She hadn't even looked at the clock, but the students in her class filed out obediently. After Tsunade was sure they had all departed, she went back to her desk, pulled out a jug of sake and poured it into a dish.

"Hogwarts, how I've missed you," she muttered, tipping it for a nice, relaxing sip, "Back at St. Mungo's I had to walk all the way to my office."

application, ooc
