If you were writing the show, what would you have done to keep Kara and Lee apart (in the vein of "don't get your heroes together too early") instead of their marriages?
Oh, I think they clashed because they were too similar. In my mind, young Saul was a lot like Kara and I think they clash because they're two like personalities. They both refuse to think that there's anything they have in common, though Bill knows and that's the reason he took a shine to Kara in the first place, because he saw what happened to a young Saul without a mentor.
Let's say that Saul and Bill settle on Earth II together. What would Lee and Saul eventually discover about each other that could cause them to bond? (More than just Bill.)
My fanon self says they were often bored and that the existence of a betting pool about their frakking came to be true.
In reality, I think a lot of the pilots rolled their eyes about Kara and Lee, and pretended maybe not to care. I think they were much more attuned to what Kara was going through since she tends to broadcast her angst, whereas Lee is quieter and more withdrawn. Those who thought about it would probably think they had already frakked - they fight overmuch for two people without that history.
