Yesterday's blackout hadn't been good for the food in the refrigerator or the freezer, so Thursday was up early cleaning everything out and making a list of what needed to be replaced

Melody was a woman on a mission. She had spent the night before in the apartment over the store, and even with her kitties, it was way, way too lonely.

So she was going door-to-door seeing if anyone was looking for roommates. It might not work, but if nothing else, she'd meet people.

She tapped on the door at 33 Apocalypse. "Anyone home?" Something about the house seemed promising.

Thursday heard the call, wiped her hands on her pants and went to answer it. She peeked out the window, then opened the door. "Yes?" she asked politely.

"Hi!" Melody said. "I just moved to town and I was kind of walking around, seeing if anybody might have a room to rent. Living without roommates is really lonely."

"I imagine it would be. Are you new in town?"
