[It's the battle dome clinic. It must be, because Ami, Doctor Mizuno, is in a room that could pass for an office in any modern hospital at first glance. She looks quite pleased with herself, quite pleased indeed ( Read more... )

[Perfect! She can balance out one of the people too scared to come.]

I'll look forward to seeing you. What time should I be available?

Flu shot...? ...Gee, I ain't ever got one b'fore. What's it do? I mean, does it keep ya from gettin' sick for a real long time?

[This is the professional side of Ami; her words are crisper and more assured.]

Yes. It's usually best to get a shot each year to cope with the new strains that develop over that time.

Oh, so it's an every-year kind a' thing, huh. [A considering pause.] I ain't gotten sick in the feelin'-gross-an'-wantin'-t'puke kind a' way in a while... so I ain't sure if I really need this. ...But it'd suck if I did get the flu close t'Christmas time or right b'fore my title bout, or somethin'.

That's right. It's a preventative measure.

I'm sorry, I know this may seem like a silly question! But what's a flu shot? [what is this thing you call modern medicine]

no_use_running November 23 2011, 06:43:57 UTC
No, it isn't silly at all; we all come from different worlds here, and have different experiences.

Are you familiar with an illness that comes with aches, fever, chills, and sometimes vomiting? It's called the flu, in my world. These medicines help to prevent it. Since it tends to be common in winter, that's usually when the shots are given.

Yes, that's true... it's just that you seemed so much more knowledgeable about it, so I thought it might one of those things that most people know already.

But that does sound familiar! I can't say it was very common, but some of the young children at home would sometimes get an illness like that during the winter months, especially when they played together near the peak. How do these "flu shots" help to shield against that sort of ailment?

[How to explain it to someone unfamiliar...]

When you get ill, your body produces certain things to defeat the illness. The shot will help those to do the job more quickly and efficiently.

Ah that's certainly not a bad idea considering how the weather gets around this time. [ He sorta forgot. ]

Winter is prone to colds and illnesses. I hope you'll come to receive one of the inoculations.

I'll be certain to do so. It would be dreadful to get sick during the holidays or in general, really. Especially when we all live so close to one another. I have been wondering if there's any magic that could help prevent illnesses...

[ Well it's a thought at least. ]

Do you mean magic from Nala?

But whatever type of healing magic it might be, I think it's better to also be prepared this way. We don't know what the Malnosso might do.

You absolutely need one. Besides, you should set a good example for the people here.

Why do I have to be the good example? You're a good enough example yourself..
