To me avril has always, well at least for the past year or three, symbolized everythng that is wrong with places like hot topic co-opting a culture that i grew up in and loved. Now you can be a non-empowered female singing psudo-power pop music sporting a mall bought black flag shirt. I think this is very wrong.

gillain gar recently republished her book on female voices in rock with an updated section. the interesting section, following a brief riot grrl section (gar being a native of Tacoma, washington ... twenty minutes north of olympia... does have some cred in talking about that) is a section about "girl power" where she talks about particularly unfeminist responses in music by females. see the spice girls, and now, a more insendiary Avril Lavine. -- Avril is more a "right girl" then could ever be a psudo-riot grrl. the reason i say psudo is she is really too young to be a riot grrl. anyway i digress.

and in defence of bryan adams, he worked at the tomahawk burger in vacouver bc, that is as canadian as you can get! i swear

i need some art school advice! i am finishing up this semester at emerson because i realize that i do not want to be a film major here. academically i don't feel i'm stimulated and i just need a program where i can thrive and be excited in what i'm doing... which is why i want to go and study illustration. where did you go to school again? maybe you can help me out here... :)
