i know a couple of people who have gone/are going to art center... one for film, one for illustration. they don't keep livejounals (to the best of my knowledge), but i can put you in contact with them if you'd like.
My suitemate really wants to go to Parsons or SVA or Cooper Union. What's bad about Parsons (besides the awful website)?
(I'm not being defensive or anything here, I myself am not an art student, and don't know anything about any of the schools. But I don't want Jane to go to a bad school.)
x she wants to do fashion design, but will probably end up taking a lot of classes in illustration, as that's what she's most talented in.
fashion is totally different. parsons seems to be an ok school for fashion since the teachers have connections and the students are in the best city for jobs/internships etc. central st. martins in london is also great for fashion... but i guess she probably wants to stay in the US.
i know that parson's fashion dept stresses really practical fashion making -- not a couture /fine arts approach to fashion but besides that... the fashion illustration classes are within their own dept. there's no crossover b/w my major and theirs even though we both do a lot of figure drawing. i don't know much about that dept since i'm in illustration. over all i just don't like parsons b/c of the students/teachers/facilities etc. granted there are a few good people within every place but for the most part i don't feel i've gotten my money's worth or learned nearly enough.
keren- art center seems like the best bet. there illustration department is VERY attractive and their facilities are fabUlous. i think the only minus is having to live in pasadena/los angeles but i'm sure that isnt that bad...
