With all due respect, Kuchiki-taichou, I hardly think retrieving a tried and true comrade from the Octava is a foolish response. We may have until noon, but I dunno that Kuukaku has that long. And I ain't gonna wait around to find out just to Be On The Safe Side.

Retrieving them is not the foolish response - going alone is.

Certainly you have not forgotten. All of the years that you were carefully observing me, I had ample oppurtunity to observe you too.
For certain, you would go just yourself, or perhaps with a few comrades, into the face of certain death. But for what?

Shiba Kuukaku is strong. She will last, and probably spit fireballs at us when we come.

We will have a plan that will mobilize an overwhelming force upon the Octava to crush him. As a unified force.
Have I not taught you? Observe, rationalize, and then exact your strength.

Gimme a little credit, sir. I ain't just gonna dive in head first with no contingency plan. I'm not totally daft. I fucked up two years ago and nearly didn't make it outta the Octava's lab alive--you really think I'd make the same mistakes twice? You didn't observe enough if you do.

This ain't just about Kuukaku. It's about Ishida, and Orihime, and Hitsugaya-taichou, and all those Shinigami he ripped apart and pieced back together to the sake of his sick, twisted answers. None of us are safe until he's dead, and I'm sick of waiting while the rest of you sit around with your thumbs up your asses as he picks us off one at a time.

You observe. You rationalize. I'm gonna go eliminate the threat to Soul Society. You can come with me if you want. Otherwise, I'll see you when I get back.

And when the Gotei decides to get off its ass and move, you can bet your hair noodles I'll be on the front lines. But if you're not coming with me, then get the fuck out of my way. Don't talk to me about obligation--as the captain of the Fifth Division, I have an obligation to bring my men home, even if they weren't my men when they went missing. And more than that, I have an obligation to protect my comrades. And that ain't got a damn thing to do with captaincy.

I don't plan to die. Hinamori already lost one captain; I don't plan to bereave her of another. But I can't not do anything. Not again.

I will stand aside, but I hope to properly stand beside you if you would only wait a few hours for the Soutaichou's decision.

This has nothing to do with my pride anymore. This is about taking him down for threatening the things that are important to me. So long as he's alive, the Gotei ain't safe. ...Rukia ain't safe. And that's not acceptable.

It would be an honor to fight alongside you again, sir. I don't want to do this, believe me...but if we don't act, Szayel ain't gonna stop. And I ain't gonna wait around for him to strike any closer to home.

The captain-commander's got til midnight to come up with a plan. After that, I'm taking this into my own hands.
