I just went to see Syriana with skywaterblue, and we saw the trailer for Brokeback Mountain, which makes the movie look really dumb and sappy. I'm glad I have you to inform me of the inaccuracy of this trailer!
Also, I just went to Roger Ebert's site to see what he thought of Syriana, and noticed that he gave King Kong four stars! Perhaps he is dazzled by fanboyish Jackson love, or something.
Oooh. You're using your Doctor Octopus icon. I melt.
I am utterly perplexed by the good reviews for King Kong. Utterly. There are some wonderful moments, particularly between the big hairy guy and the little blonde lady, but it's so hopelessly FLAWED.
The Brokeback Mountain trailer bears no resemblance to the film! It's a laughable, sappy mess that tries to be "inoffensive" and only succeeds in being dumb, instead. And what did you think of Syriana? It sounds fierce and brave. I'm harboring a huge soul boner for George Clooney these days. There's no denying the Fred Friendly/Edward R. Murrow subtext in Good Night, and Good Luck. Mmm. Clooney slash. Hot, and with all the right politics. Good and good for you, like a vitamin-packed truffle.

What is up with that weight loss? Did he have something tied or stapled? I mean, good for him if that's what he wants and it makes him feel better.
The whole "Heart of Darkness" business feels shoe-horned in, as if Jackson decided he needed to pound home a heavy metaphor without taking the time to actually weave it into the story. But let me know what you think once you've seen the film... I really want to like the new King Kong, and am looking for a reason to forgive Peter Jackson his malfeasance.

He attributed his weight loss to yogurt and muesli (bleurgh). I'm not entirely convinced. Jack Black thinks it doesn't matter, 'cos dude is genius.
I like Peter Jackson and I'm v. excited to see what he does with The Lovely Bones. I'm also curious to see what he'll do with the popular Chinese novel Wolf Totem (I haven't read it yet) for which he has bought the movie rights to.
I have to admit, I'm not surprised. I WAS surprised that he picked that project in the first place, as in my opinion it's been done to death and really has nothing new to say.
The trailers I'd seen looked like a videogame - and take the realms of CGI too far, there's nothing gaspy as we are now spoiled - anything is possible with CGI and we just watch the battle of dinos with the same emotion that we watch a conversation.

Yeah, exactly. It's just... yawn, another human running from a dinosaur. Been there, seen that. And there are so many dinosaurs in this flick... but not enough big, noble monkey.
If I were visiting Monkey Island, and I saw that monkey fight a T-Rex, I think I'd want to capture the T-Rex more than the monkey! I mean monkey is awesome and big, etc., but a dinosaur!!!!! Maybe the T-Rex dies in the fight and there are no more dinosaurs on Monkey Island?

Ah, I was wondering how that was going to turn out. Well, not so much wondering as anticipating the seemingly inevitable outcome. :\

Kong: dead.
Brokeback Mountain: In theatres! Go see it, Eo. It's beautiful. And sad. Sad and beautiful. All the best things in life are.

That's intriguing! Well, except for the "leaden" part.
Not having seen the movie yet, so far I'm most impressed with Peter Jackson's weight loss.

I certainly won't be wasting my money.

Naomi Watts swinging from a T. Rex's nostrils!
Not gonna lie... I would see a movie for this reason.
