Something Rotten in the State of Noblerot

Jan 22, 2006 14:53

I thought I’d post an update on where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing for the past month. Where I’ve been: Issaquah, Washington. What I’ve been doing: running in and out of hospitals with my little Lithuanian mama, who suffered a number of health crises over the holidays. For added chuckles, a crazy sibling has also been on the prowl. Yeah, it’s ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear about your mum, hope she's doing better now?

Thanks, B. She's stable now. You'll like this: When I returned home, I discovered that field mice had taken over my apartment. They turned my bed into a giant nest. The mess? It defied description. And yet... oh, I'm a sick cookie... every time I prepare to bait live traps and relocate the interlopers, one of the little beasts pops up to bedazzle me with cuteness, and I pause. Woe.

That is SO COOL! Okay, probably a bit messy and poohie, but still, cool. I told my friends about this and they reacted with various degrees of horror. How's mouse? Is he still around?

Mouse is doing remarkably well for a beast in his dotage. Hey, do you know anything about chinchillas? Someone wants to give me one, but I've heard they're cranky.

Oh, sweetie, I had so hoped that you would escape the general horror that January has been for everyone else. Alas. Hope your mom's condition is stabilized at a point that is tolerable for her and that you get a chance to rest up from the strain of caretaking.

...

Someday, when all this is but a distant, terrible memory, we can swap crazy-sibling stories. We will laugh! Like this: hah hah! See?

...

the date of my gran's memorial service keeps getting moved around, which I think expresses conscious hostility on the part of my mom and aunt but never mind that, but anyway it seems I will be in your area sometime early in April if you would like to hang out.

Thanks, Lola. It seems everyone I know has had a rough time during the past six months. I blame George Bush, because blaming George Bush feels good.

Yes, yes, yes! Let's meet in April for crazy sibling stories (and wine; there must always be wine). I would love that.

Oof, sorry it's been rough of late. Best wishes to your mum, and to you.

Thank you. I know your pop had a scare last year, too. Seems to be a bad period for parents.

Man, I can definitely empathize. I hope things settle down. It's not fun having to deal with family stuff when you're all in the same city; it must be even tougher long-distance.

Since I'm a fan of U2 and Sheryl Crow, I'll refrain from casting any Hollaback stones. It is nice to see that someone else doesn't hate Coldplay; seems like everyone else has decided they're sick of them.

Oh, and I think your paper just gave a good review to my friend's restaurant. Not sure if you spend much time in Marin, but if you do, give it a try!

I can't recall the last time I was out in Greenbrae, but maybe I'll make a pilgrimage. I do love me a good meal.

Dude. "Hollaback Girl" ROX. I'd love to see Casey Novak sing it. I'm serious. Meanwhile, in iconland, I'll match your Jake and raise you one Heath.
