In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey

What fresh hell is this? I entered my name in Google's book search engine just, y'know, on a lark. To my astonishment, I find I'm cited and/or quoted in 14 publications ranging from a 1998 paperback called Sheroes: Bold, Brash, and Absolutely Unabashed Superwomen from Susan B. Anthony to Xena to a hardcover published last year titled Divided We ( Read more... )

1) Judging by Google, "Clipped Wings" will haunt me til I die. (Not necessarily a bad thing.)

2) morgan_d fangirl each other an awful lot. (Ditto.)

3) I will always have a tiny little spot in _Hakkenden_ fandom. Along with all five of us worldwide.

I, er, am not even sure what "Hakkenden" is. *weepz at own ignorance*

Eight Dogs Legend, I'm told, if you break down the kanji literally, otherwise known as _The Legend of the Dog Warriors_. A Japanese nineteenth century epic novel (twenty volumes!) about fifteenth-century derring-do and heroic fighting by eight young men descended from eight different samurai families, each with the character for "dog" (inu) in their names. So Inuzaka, Inuyama, etc etc. Much swordplay and sorcery along with (I'm told) considerable moralizing to make it a suitably improving tale for Young Readers.

I've never read the novel, as it's never been translated to English to my knowledge, but I have the anime and a live-action movie version. I understand there's also a ballet version floating around somewhere.

I believe you know my full name. It does not come up with anything remotely related to me on google. It's like Bob Smith.

Yay!

I'm taking care of my little Lithuanian mama! Haven't been into town much at all. Are you in the city? Dude. Give my regards to my old Capitol Hill stomping grounds, now gentrified and much mourned.

Everybody's quotable in the right context - seriously, if I've done projects or papers on fandom for university I've been happily snagging quotes from all over the net. Just this weekend, iharthdarth.livejournal.com got a bit of a work-out when I tried to explain typical fandom phenomena, how fen critisize and satirize sources even if they love them and internet popularity. That's just the thing with "de-popping" pop-culture, I guess.

BTW, just because you work with scientific standards and academically doesn't mean the rest of the class won't think you're a total dork. Oh well, I live for it, what can I say?

And no, no interesting stuff when I google my own name. Some PolSci student in Vienna (ironic) and last year there was a paper article about a concert I had a solo piece in, other than that, nothing interesting.

"de-popping pop culture." I love it. Maybe I'll quote you, thus implicating myself in my own post! Yay. Solo in a concert... hmmm... was it violin? Are you a violinist and an academic?

*preparez to be awed*

Nah, just a solo part in a choir gospel concert. I haven't sung on stage in quite some time, though. :-( I miss it!
