Okay, so I'm relatively new to my beloved iBook, even though I've already chipped and battered it to a pulp, and I'm stuck. I have a few big, as in mega-hi resolution, pictures that I want to reduce to LJ-friendly proportions. Can I do this in iPhoto? All I'm finding is a cropping option. AN I DUN WAANNA CROP. On ye olde PC, I had some software ( Read more... )

You're frightened and alone and there's nothing I can do to help because I'm completely iBook iLliterate. The "stretch/skew" feature in Paint is always my resizing tool o' choice, but undoubtedly iPhoto has evolved well beyond such clunky maneuvers. I hope someone smart is able to come to your aid.

OMG, you've given me the lizard-eye icon o' doom. Things must be worse than I thought. Where are the pigs and the bunnies?

This is a confounding situation. iPhoto has all these sophisticated (to me) tools for color-correcting etc., but no simple resizing feature. OMGWTF? Are these people communists? Am I a Luddite? And why does that lizard look like he knows something?

Maybe try hitting the Edit tab, then the Constrain tab? Then, try picking a new ratio (4 x 3).

I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm new to this software too, dude!

I did try that, but it only reduced the proportions of the picture without reducing the image itself - like a really sloppy cropping job.

It is so obvious Steve Jobs hates me.

I hope you don't mind a random drive-by commenter. I was browsing somebody else's flist and thought I'd try to lend a hand, with the caveat that while I've been using Macs since 1988, I use GraphicConverter for stuff like this, so I'm no iPhoto expert. Also, I may not have the same version of iPhoto. Anyway, "constrain" in the edit tab might work, though I haven't tried it. Also, you can go to the file menu and choose "export photo". The dialog box that pops up will let you resize, though you need to enter the sizes in pixels. (This method would have the advantage of not altering the original copy of your photo.)

Wow, am I glad you happened to drive by! I'm off to try the "export photo" function now. Thank you, o commenter of the bashful icon.

I don't have an ibook, so I can't help. But I can resize them in photoshop, if you want to send them to me.
