Between two evils, I always pick the one I've never tried before.

Henry Jenkins' blog must be a cornucopia of delights for all the slashy academics (you know who you are, damn eggheads). His latest entry about aca/fen makes me want to apply for grad school at MIT. Then I could have both Jenkins and Chomsky. At a distance. Well, at least I'd know they were somewhere on campus. Sometimes. Er. Nevermind ( Read more... )

Last time a character I adored turned out to have a self-destructive streak, I had nightmares. Life for us obsessive fans just isn't fair. I was halfway glad Threshold was cancelled, this way they couldn't go further down the road of turning Ramsey into a pathetic, needy, broke, self-hating coke-addict.

So my recipe seems to be: cancellation! Maybe JKR runs out of ink before finishing book 7? I fear for my Severus, I really do, because even if he survives he is going to be such a mess. *mourns*

Oooh, they made Dukat go crazy and religious! That was a great pain that I still have not managed to work through. And Garak wasn't 100% sane by the end of DS9, either. *sigh*

Alas! No cancellation possible! If JKR is lost at sea, her final transcript remains. DOOM.

I gotta admit, religion, mental illness, pathos, poverty and coke addiction are still preferable to DEATH OMG DEATH.

Never trust a university with "technology" in its title!

Gah, tragedy! Yeah, I bet she's going to kill off both Lucius and Severus, damn her hide, just because it's the "right thing to do." I admit the whole Dumbledore thing kind of blew my mind when I read it.

I have a thing for the bad guys, too. Why is that? Because as Dark Helmet once said, "Good is dumb." Bad guys are much more delicious and interesting. They have weaknesses. Foibles. A tendency to kill things. Which I do so enjoy.

I guess you just have to accept you heart the bad boys and automatically expect to see them killed off/get their comeuppance.

By the way, Keller still lives. FOREVER!!!!

The eye thing is very strange. I think it's meant to represent jouissance or something. At least they didn't use this.

Fanfic. Alternate reality/universe. What if he zigged instead of zagged and *blah blah blah waves hand* lived happily ever after? *looks shifty* The canon is but one possible version of a character's life....

But still, the canon, the canon... it's like JKR's the captain of the football team. You want her to take your favorite character to the prom and out for ice cream afterwards instead of dumping a bucket of pig's blood on his head.
