Percy had worked really hard on his Father's Day card for the Doctor. It had taken a lot to convince Donna to help, a whole roll of sad faces, in fact. She thought it was lovely that he wanted to make a card for the Doctor, but at the same time she didn't want to give him a painful reminder of what he'd lost. Still, she'd helped the little android ( Read more... )

It was unexpected. Unexpected but adorable. He had to smile when Percy offered it all, flailing his arms and printing off love hearts and happy faces. Taking the car, he read it over and gave Percy a quick hug. It was hard, he remembered being a dad but-- well, it was a lovely gift.

"Thank you Percy!"

And he could guess who helped with it. Which is why he and Percy returned to the kitchen, Percy eating the Doctors gifts as they walked along. "Did you see the card that Percy got me?"

Of course she had!

Donna had just about finished deglitterizing the table. The damn stuff got everywhere... everywhere. But it was mostly cleared away now> she would have to find Adi for bathtime later before he sparkled up everything in the whole TARDIS, but it could wait.

She gave the Doctor her best innocent smile. "No?" She looked at the card. "Aw, now that's lovely, isn't it? And the glittery hair Percy gave you in the picture is the perfect touch don't you think?"

Oh, and that smell? Pancakes with banana caramel topping, whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.

The Doctor smiled slightly, not sure what to make of all of this. It was all a bit odd but he couldn't help but be a bit amused by it all. He wasn't a father, not really. He had a robot and a hand but that was good enough, right? He didn't need to be a proper dad-- that always ended badly.

And, of course, Adam came wandering in, stole a few pancakes and wandered right on back out.

"What? No card from you?"

All he got was a muffled response around a mouthful of pancakes.

Donna wouldn't admit it, but by putting all her efforts into making sure the Doctor had a good day it made it easier to cope with the fact that her own dad wasn't here for her to shower with love and gifts.

Besides, there was nothing at all wrong with having androids, hands and adipose for kids. Heck, their patchwork little family made more sense that half the families on the estate not far from her old house.

And Percy seemed really happy that the Doctor was smiling, judging by his squeaks and random happy pictures.

"Not expecting a card off the grumpy 'teen' are you? Be surprised if he can manage to stay out of bed more than five minutes," Donna teased.
