After leaving Unit 01 in the hangar, rather than go back to Misato's apartment, he wanders the halls for a while, eventually finding a couch in a random lounge. He lies down on it, looking at the ceiling, and pulls his comm out to make a voice post

Kensuke had tried to catch Shinji after the mission, but he was gone to quickly. He had the advantage of knowing this place well, where Kensuke was constantly getting lost. Just when he had given up and headed home he finally caught up to him.

"Shinji!... Uh.. hey." Kensuke pushed his glasses up his nose, looking a bit worse for wear, but not worse than his classmate. "You left so quick I-"

Shinji shifts on the couch to face away from Kensuke when he sees him.

Every time he tries to connect with people, it comes back to ruin his life. Why should this be any different?

Kensuke is a bit taken aback by Shinji's shunning, what happened to their friendship? Why was everyone so mad at him when he only wanted to help.

"I... I think you where amazing out there. I'm glad you where with me too." He ran a hand through his dirty blond locks and sighed aloud. "I'm... sorry about Ayanami. We did everything we could, didn't we?"

We gave it our all, then we killed it. That's what the GDF does.

Rei self-destructed Unit 00 to kill an Angel.

Why, though? Aren't we supposed to be all about changing the future? Why can't we change stuff like this? Rei didn't ask to be sacrificed.

So what happened? Kensuke said that Rei blew up her Eva. But he was also all hero like and I was hoping to get the full story from you.
