Anything Else?: IN CASE YOU'VE ALL FORGOTTEN THIS In-Character Information
Name : Popple Game/Series: Super Mario Series
Canon Point: Pre-BIS
Age & Teaching Position: 23/Security team
Living Arrangements: Teacher dorms
Personality: Popple does not have a very large scope on things. A one track mind kind of guy, his very existence thrives on one thing, and that is CASH (including, but not limited to, other objects of immense value). He also happens to be a scheming, conniving, greedy little thief who befittingly speaks with an almost "chicago mob" accent, though he really hails from a place neighboring the Mushroom Kingdom called the Beanbean Kingdom, which is inhabited by flamboyantly-dressed Bean people. He is known to roam about these parts, picking wallets from both residents and foreigners alike, then cashing it in for pleasantries such as theater and fermented Chuckola. He does dream of really hitting the jackpot one day with a priceless artifact or some other legendary object that would have him set for life. Sometimes he comes off as a bit of a kleptomaniac, but insinuating as such would be an insult to his way of living.
For a lone hoodlum, Popple takes his 'profession' very, very seriously, going as far as calling himself "The Shadow Thief", and talking big when it comes to just how competent he is. Really, he is all mouth with little success. Ironically, he would rather work his tail off and risk his freedom to obtain his goal through illegal means, than rather just earn a decent paycheck through honest work. Along with his questionable self esteem, Popple is also prone to tantrums outbursts when things don't go according to his liking. He can also be rather selfish and puts himself before others, willing to use other people as footstools (literally and metaphorically) to get what he wants, even if it has to take a little persuasion and a friendly face on his end. What he makes up for sneakiness, he lacks in physical strength, and will sometimes try to employ someone gullible enough to work as his muscle and partner in crime. These Boss and Rookie relationships are more often than not tragically short-term. Mostly because Popple can be plain too bossy.
Despite all his talk and blissful indifference of stepping on other people's toes, Popple is not truly an evil person. He's more interested in getting rich quick and making a big name for himself than making lives miserable for everyone (unless there's some spite involved). Short-temper and greediness aside, he can actually be a conversationalist, but don't get your hopes up for too long, because he'll turn the tables as soon as he sees gold at the other end of the tunnel. In the end, Popple might fail in getting what he wants, but if you can look at it as an admirable trait, he is brimming with persistance.
Backstory: Not much is known about Popple, except that he once was hired to work at a shop in Beanbean Castle Town. It didn't work out so well for obvious reasons (low morale on the job), and he was kicked out the first week without ever having received his first paycheck. And then one day his parents were killed, traumatizing him and leading him to become the best supervillain EVER Okay no, but he did become a wannabe thief, believing that he has found he true calling in life. He also got revenge on that totally ungrateful shopowner.
Things took its course after that. He was successful at evading Peasley and the royal guards, and finally making it to the wanted posters.....for being a public nuisance. It was a start!
One fateful day he was wandering around Hoo Hoo mountain when he came across the unconscious body of Bowser, a dragon-turtle-king villain infamous for his constant Princess Peach. Popple for whatever reason, did not recognize him. And the dragon-turtle foreigner turned out to be a John Doe who didn't know who he was either. Popple took this to his advantage and led him to believe that they worked as partners in crime all along. And thus, a duo born. Together, they attempted to steal the fabled Chuckola Reserve. And failed to Mario and Luigi. Then attempted to steal the Beanstar. And failed again. Much flipping out was had on Popple's part. But eventually, they were separated in a freak event, and looking to fill that hole in his heart Popple, once recovered, immediately held up auditions for a replacement. The winning contestant happened to be a Birdo with....an inexplicable infatuation with him. Like any reasonable person who happens to know a Birdo's reputation, he decided to ignore it. Together they fought Mario and Luigi one last time, and after failing (again) Popple had another one of his tantrums and was sent flying out of the stage by Birdo for being a huge jerk. Last we ever see him, he was working for a Toad in Little Fungitown, ironically having lost his memories.
But we can assume he got over his case of amnesia. FAST FORWARD TO SMASH ACADEMY. Having ditched his employer, he decided that he's outgrown his home kingdom and ventured out into the world unknown. He eventually found himself at Final Destination City. An actual city! But things were a little too surreal for him, and he needed a place to lie low while he figure out his line of plans. Enrolling at the nearby Smash Academy was his best option, and he thus believed to have found himself a goldmine of people to steal from. Not only was the place too crazy for him, he found the life of the student rather constricting. So he took off, but not without stealing a least a few hand-me-downs (and beer) from some of the faculty. No one noticed No one noticed.
Instead of going back to the Beanbean Kingdom, he remained in FDC for a while, holding up a mildly successful pawn shop in some shady part of the city. It had a good run until the people he had stolen from finally caught up with him, and he was forced to scram. He lost all his money and goods, and it seemed that the only option left was to move out of this place. After much pondering, he came up with another course of plans: enroll back to Smash Academy, not as a student, but as one of the faculty. Such a brilliant idea!! Why didn't he think of it sooner? Seriously. The chances of it actually happening were low, considering he didn't have much of a resume to show, but it was either that, or run back to the Beanbean Kingdom empty-handed. It was worth the shot.
There was an opening in the security team. Without a second's hesitation, he went for it. And actually made it in. Oh god.
Anything Else?: =Popple won't be pulling any major heists yet. Right now, I'm looking for a lighter roleplay experience as my job and other interests are keeping me preoccupied. =.....he is bringing a Cucco
In-Character 1st person writing sample (journal):
Here In-Character 3rd person writing post: Popple was as giddy as a schoolgirl. Wait, scratch that. He was as excited as....a grown man at a monster truck rally. Yeah! His hastily constructed pawn shop was actually making some cash! Not that he was surprised or anything. Only Popple, the Greatest Shadow Thief, could pull results such as this. Yep, he was pretty confident all along, and he didn't even need that stupid school in the first place. Buncha saps they were.
Best part was no one even recognized him in this brilliant paste-on mustache he found lying around. Heck, he probably didn't even need a disguise, with how incredibly stealthily he'd break into shops and take their goods. Who'd need those places anyways when you can pick them up at Popple's place for half the price? His customers sure didn't. Once he acquired enough cash.....and rupees....and pokedollars from these doodads, he could afford putting up a less rickety shop that didn't need to be covered up when it rained. Maybe he could even afford a Rookie in one of these parts.
For once, things were looking up, and with this progress, he'll be more pampered than Peasley's hair. The small cucco he hasn't managed to sell off yet pecked at his feet, disrupting him from his daydreaming. Sure, maybe he'll buy a pillow for him too. They'll see how that goes.
