Awesome, good luck with it. I have no idea what kind of eating works for you but if you end up doing a low-carb thing and wish to discuss/rant, I am game as that is what my Dad and I do. If you _haven't_ ever tried low-carb, you might give it a try. I have trouble stopping once I start eating and have found that only high fat high protein food will keep me feeling sated (even if I am feeling emotional, which normally makes me want more food).
Oh, also, would it help to think of ways of measuring progress besides weight? If you start doing a lot of exercise your weight may increase as you get healthier. I do a combination of photographing myself front and side in my underwear and measuring my waistline.
At 220+ lbs, my weight won't increase if I exercise/get healthier, trust me. My body is pretty happy around 130lbs, not 90+ lbs more :) The problem with exercise at the moment is that I have a lot of damaged bits from my earlier years and being fat makes them worse. I can walk and do some things (weight lifting is usually okay), but until I'm under 170 or so I can't do anything too physical. It's really annoying and one of the reasons I'm so mad at myself for letting things get this bad.
I have tried low carb. I'm doing a sort of low carb thing a friend came up with for me. We'll see how it goes. Mostly I just need to stop binge eating, but that's going to be a long, tough process. Sigh.
Good luck! Another thing I do to stop binge eating is to come up with substitutes for food--i.e. every time I want to binge eat I offer myself non-food treats instead (dancing, coffee, orgasms, whatever).
