Not to wave the diet flag around, but after years of healthy eating with little weight loss, I went on South Beach. Un-fucking-believeable. My weight has stayed the same, but my muscle tone has increased and my clothing size has gone down. It's based on the premise that there are large variations in insulin levels, especially when eating high-carb and sugary items, and the first two weeks cuts a lot of those foods out of your diet and helps stabilize your insulin production. After that, you can eat all the protein, fruits and vegetables that you want, plus moderate amounts of whole grains and starches. I never go hungry, can snack when I need to, and in the first two weeks alone I dropped an entire clothing size without muscle loss like the usual restricting-type diets. The best part is that most of that weight loss was around my waistline, as that's where insulin-dependent weight gain tends to settle. Combine it with exercise (I increase my carbs on days when I am running, to give myself that extra needed energy), and it has ( ... )
