I had originally intended for him to spare the zu, but I just couldn't really see him doing that, even if he felt kinda bad about it. He's trying, but I think he still has a ways to go before he understands that sometimes it's okay to hesitate and indulge your "weakness." I always got the impression of Kain as someone who always does what he is told and what is practical regardless of how it makes him feel. ♥
