stubborn traditionalism

this site bothers me...it basically says "modern" art is not art and that art is supposed to recreate reality. it holds up the traditional style of realism. after having seen painting after painting depicting the same subject in the louvre, I have to say painting a pretty, realistic picture that tells a story does not make ( Read more... )

i agree with you. i like impressionism and expressionism and more modern art because even though it might not be realistic, i think the texture and style kind of makes the subject heighten or transcend the reality. like that kind of art puts more human emotions or interpretations into the subject. i think people think more realistic art is superior because it takes more human skill, but i agree that it gets boring after a while. i think an original interpretation is what makes them great.

My first impression of that site is that it is butt ugly. So they're violating their own "standards".

My second thought was how much I hate it when people use art as a cover for being Nazis and spreading ignorance and hate. Grrrr

And perhaps they have not noticed that the camera was invented? So now it is no longer important to paint things *exactly* as they are. We have a fabulous little device that can do just that! Now we can move outside of the physical and paint the emotional and non-physical aspects that we experience. It is awesome to be liberated and to break outside of the confines of history into new areas of art and expression.

But it seems these people have not evolved enough to understand this.
