More than a year ago you posted on meetup.com an interest in local area meetups. As you can guess a community not on LJ for the purpose of helping LJ users meet did not go over so well and yet a surprising number of people posted interest there.
I finally decided to do something about this and instead of just posting my LJ handle there as you did, I created an LJ community dedicated to the purpose of helping interested LJ users to meet.
I tend to agree with your comment about being shy about meeting the locals, and this is why I previously created a more select meetups group where membership is more restricted. The community linked below is unrestricted and exists for the purpose of helping everyone from a fairly large area to post meetup announcements.
If you are interested in joining the community you are more than welcome. mocomdmeetupPS: I notice we have one friend in common. Now that I think about it I seem to recall seeing your comments in her journal, althought I've not been reading actively

Don't feel bad you forgot joining it, so did most everybody else, which is why I decided to try to take their interest and put it to good use in what had the potential to be more successful. I don't know if you've heard this but in the time since you joined, meetup.com has begun CHARGING people $3 per individual per meeting and you owe them even if you don't show up! I'm actually not very interested in supporting that aspect of things at all. I'm hoping that even if there is only moderate interest in the LJ community, it may serve to lure non LJ meetup.com to our totally free (or at least voluntary payment) Livejournal.
Even if you are not interested in a true LJ community on the subject you might want to check out the poll I created. It is intended to be both amusing and practical, and while only three people other than myself have joined the community, six people other than myself have taken the poll.
They're actually charging people now to go to those meetups??? WTF? And who do the profits go to?? And for what??
I read the poll, actually, before you mentioned it, and found it to be quite amusing. At your suggestion, I may fill it out even though I don't plan on joining the community.

I'm not really interested in that anymore, though. But thank you.
