I do plan to play Empire! Kind of nervous, since I've previously failed to find my place in big-scale event LARPs (both times I went to Maelstrom I was reduced to catatonic hiding in my tent before Sunday), but I hope it works out. Still not sure what I want to play, mind.

In answer to your question:
I wanted to do something practical. Blacksmithing wasn't an option, and somehow farming came up. I knew nothing about it, so figured that college was a good way to get away from my parents and learn what it was about.

From a purely academic viewpoint: I wasn't into it. I liked the practical stuff, but there's a lot more to it than shearing sheep and driving tractors.

I didn't have any friends - everyone but me left the campus at weekends. I didn't smoke, I wasn't racist, I wasn't old enough to drink, and I was a girl (dick-punching being a favoured sport of my course mates). I got scared, stopped eating, my bike got vandalised and I fell apart. I mostly remember getting up, eating one pot of jelly, doing whatever I had to do for the day, having a bath and going back to bed. Eventually it was too much and I left.

From where I am now, I'm glad I did. I like this life much more.
