Another piece.

No, I am not obsessed with birds, it just so happens that I received a paid request from an ambient/nature soundscape band to create an illustration involving nature and birds. I didn't want to completely strive away from my darker style, but it still had to be somewhat nice and peaceful. So, after some discussion and thought, something stylised, ( Read more... )

Hehe, yes, the bird doesn't really match where it is, but I thought the look of the bird matched. :) It is a bit busy, though I meant minimalistic within the style of the cherry blossoms mainly. That linograph look.

I like the balance of the composition.
And its good to step outside ones traditional style every now and then.
For its intended purpose, I think its a very nice piece.

Thank you. Yes, it was challenging to step out of my usual style, but I am quite happy with the result. :)

did they give you a manifesto or anything, or any direction on what sort of feel they wanted to caputre? For me personally i see a peaceful journey in the work, I would associate it with a funeral home - but maybe an electronic advertisment (because i dont think they'd go for something as busy on tv/billboards due to low exposure times). I dont see anything specifically targetting the birds/nature type stuff, but that may just be me :).
Having said that, i like the way it feels, but i have a soft spot for cherry blossom (or cherry blossom-esque) trees.

I hope the bit about the funeral hgomes doesnt come accross as insulting! it wasnt meant to be :\

Haha! Yes, funeral homes, perhaps. :P I looked at the bird on the top right and noticed it looked quite ghostly when I started to play around with the effects, so I went with that, thinking that a peaceful spiritual feel would work well with nature.
They didn't really give me any particular feels to go with, just that they wanted maybe something with cherry blossom and birds, something with a peaceful feel. They did have music of an ambient sort to give an idea.
