Well, two weeks in a row...

... lookie there, is this a habit in the making? Here's a link to my hopefully weekly blog post over at Home Solutions:

Where Should It Live?We spent 5 hours today (plus an hour set-up time) doing a senior living expo. I came up with a fun idea for the display - two dollhouses set up with tips for organizing/downsizing in each room of the houses. ( Read more... )

OMG - love your display. Referrals baby referrals... it is so much easier to get when they have a friendly fun face to attach to the business card. Who can forget your little display houses, so catchy.

Thanks so much - I spent so much time hunting and gathering the furniture for the rooms, craigslist, ebay, amazon - that I started buying doll house furniture in my dreams. The display was lost on 95% of the crowd today, but it was rewarding when somebody said, "Omg, what a great idea- such a creative display!"

I'm considering another event in two weeks at the University of Buffalo - they get upwards of 1,000 people through, so I'd just have to make new tips for my rooms geared toward busy professionals instead of retirees... http://www.ubwellfest.com/

I like your display... very interesting!

One thing about "seniors"... usually if it is "free" they will take it... just because!!! :)

Thank you, and after today I realize that they surely do! I tell my clients all the time, "Just because it's free doesn't mean you have to take it!" because they'll have a dozen water bottles that they don't even use and by golly, here comes another one...because "Heck, it was FREE!"

People handing out free things act like I'm crazy if I say, "No thank you, I don't need a fill-in-the-blank" and usually reply, "But it's free!"

Cute display and apt - seeing as your business is called 'Home Solutions'. I hope it brings in clients in the long run.

#2 son got the 'flu shot one year and he was very sick...very sick. He got the full on 'flu from it. He was in his early 20s at the time. I have no idea why he thought a flu shot might be a good idea. Me, on the other hand, after just having had a very serious case of some lurgy or other, am seriously considering one for next year! Unfortunately they cannot protect us from the latest incarnations of these bugs, as they mutate over time.

Re: Where should it live?: Apparently in the bushfires we have just had down south, some people panicked because they had to leave their houses immediately. They didn't know where their car keys were. On the sofa? Or slid down the BACK of the sofa! On the bench? On the sink? I always keep my car keys in a place where I an find them quickly. But NOT on a hook near the garage where a desperate person on the run could take the keys and take the car just like that.

I can honestly say that "a desperate person on the run" and access to keys has never crossed my mind!

We've had a couple of escaped prisoners in the 27 years I've lived here. Now, this is a safe place, and not near a prison, but it does happen! I guess that's what made me think of it. Also, I have been a single mum a lot of the time I've been here - no hubby top protect me!

I once got a reaction to a flu shot - about 25 years ago - but not since. And last year my husband had a reaction - just one day feeling like he had the flu. It happens.

I love the "where should it live"? idea. My purse, keys, mail - all are piled on the sofa because they have nowhere else to go.

There are such strong opinions about the flu shot - for AND against - that I was always on the fence. Hubby gets it every year, no reaction and I started thinking maybe it was like playing Russian roulette, and that I'd go one year too many without and get knocked on my butt big time, so I changed from Russian roulette to craps and took a roll of the dice...

Great idea! I think that the connections you made with other vendors will be the biggest benefit. Anyone who fills their bag with all that crap is in need of your services and isn't likely to recognize it. I used to pick up everything but now they can barely make me take the stuff I want.

I just decided to do another event at the University of Buffalo in less than two weeks; that'll get about 1,000 university faculty and staff attendees- more "my people" from a client basis, so we'll see how that one goes. They bring me in 4 times a year to speak at their "lunch and learn" sessions and they always go well, so I figured it's another way to get my name out there.
