All four of us all gathered for dinner and pumpkin carving tonight. Since our boys were old enough to carve, we've had four pumpkins to light up the porch on Halloween night every year except one. Wow-- our carvings never come out that fancy! No matter the tools and the scraping, the pumpkins are invariably thick-rinded and have evil stringy things in them.

I hate cleaning out pumpkins. 50% of the time, I draw on them with Sharpies instead of carving them. ;)

I see that your one son took the phrase "Blue ribbon pumpkin" very literally!

Gutting them takes almost as much time as carving them. The boys hate that part and still try to get me to gut theirs for them like I did when they were young'uns. Yeah, the youngest made me chuckle out loud since it was unlike him to be sort of bragging about his "award winner" - one year he carved the Wu Tang Clan symbol and I was shocked at the number of trick or treaters who knew what it was.
