history/general personality;
Alexiel is a character that upon first glance has little substance, but as her story unfolds is shown to be a very complicated individual. Alexiel is known in the angel world as a rebel who defied god because she was jealous of her brother and god's love for him. As punishment for her crimes, she was sentenced to having her soul reincarnate on earth continuously into different people, all whom live miserable lives and ultimately die horrible deaths at a very young age. She is first introduced in Angel Sanctuary via her most recent incarnation, Mudou Setsuna-a boy romantically in love with his sister (fffffffff ugggh). While everyone who knows Setsuna is Alexiel's reincarnation (short of Nanatsuyana, who seems them as different) refers to him as Alexiel, it eventually becomes clear that Setsuna and Alexiel are not the same personalities (while Sakuya Kira/Nanatsuyana is most likely the same personality as Lucifer, only humanized). Both Setsuna and Alexiel are initially introduced with aloof and cold exteriors; Setsuna only caring about his sister, Sara, and his friend, Kira and Alexiel acting disinterested in her brother, Rosiel, as he tries desperately to win her attention. With Alexiel, her cold exterior is her makeup to hide her true personality. She is, in fact, an extremely caring individual, but lacks the knowledge of how to properly show it. It's never made clear why she is unable to properly show it when she does (why she doesn't is to protect her brother), but judging from her past it seems like she never had the chance to properly learn.
She was born known as the Organic Angel. But, from her birth had also come a twin, that never fully formed on his own. This was her brother, Rosiel, and god offered her the chance to help Rosiel if she promised never to show her affections towards him. To save her brother (she did indeed love him very much), she agreed and was locked away in Eden as to have zero contact with him. Other than the nurses "taking care of her" in Eden, Alexiel has no other contacts. She is alone-save for the animals that are with her every so often-and while she cares, she doesn't understand how to show it. All she knows how to do is stop suffering by killing and that's her only true way of showing her affections. Her intentions are pure, she just simply knows no other alternatives. Her "cage" is eventually broken into, however, by Lucifel the MorningStar, a power and high ranked angel with a very bitter agenda against god for the path he's been forced to take. In order to extract revenge against god, he planned to rape and kill god's "beloved daughter", but after meeting her was unable to go through with it.
This meeting shows Alexiel in a different light, particularly in her reactions towards Lucifel. When he is threatening and acting violent towards her, she does nothing, accepting it and only ultimately harming him in order to kill the bird poisoned with the fruit of knowledge (Lucifel has bad timing and she was trying to take care of it when he busted in). However, when he instead shows affection to her by kissing her, she reacts instead violently towards him, pushing him away. (He returns later to help her escape, but is captured in the process and is punished by having his memories taken and his soul sealed in the sword, Nanatsuyana. Alexiel takes this sword with her and eventually leads a revolt against heaven. However, when she confronts her brother, intending to kill him (as he asked of her back when she was still imprisoned in Eden and giving him the cold shoulder), she loses her resolve when he asks her if she'd really kill her own brother. She's captured, tried, and punished to her eternal recycle of reincarnation and rebirth.
extended & etc.;
Once you get past the cold exterior, she is rather kind and while battle hardened, there are various allusions that Alexiel would have liked nothing more than to have been a woman protected by the man she loved (she states she loves someone, although who he is is never particularly explained. It's hinted it could be her referring to Lucifer, judging from some of her reincarnations' actions and her ending statements about him "I've never met another man like him", but there's no proof.) In her reincarnation of Setsuna, it's clear Alexiel wants nothing more than to live her life out as the boy known as Mudou Setsuna. Various entities comment on how she seems to like being human and her resolve and abilities change with her experiences as one. By the end of her story, she is able to confront what she was running away from and help her brother as she should have during the revolt against heaven.
Something else to be noted is Alexiel's ability to naturally attract people (similar to Setsuna's). Both of them have a uncanny ability to leave a mark on the people they meet (love or hate), but Alexiel seems particularly lucky in acquiring stalkers/people in love with her even when she barely interacts with them and has no interest in them in the slightest. (So, really, she can't be that much of a bitch ;; )
As for her stay in Nuadoria, she'll be rather cautious of others, although not mean, but distant and uncertain. The idea of being in a place with others where she's not a reincarnation or being persecuted or participating in a war is quite alien to her. Once she becomes friendly with them, however, she should open up a bit more and probably can even be friendly (she has spent the past 17 years in a teenage boy's body, after all, she must of picked something up). Since her focus has always been on helping her brother and dealing with god, it'll be interesting to see how she develops with her new-found "freedom" in Nuadoria, as none of her "goals" from home necessarily apply here.
relationships;
rosiel --> Dear dear brother ♥ He is truly her end all and be all and while she initially seems to act cold and uncaring towards him (even when she first talks to him through Setsuna), she really does love him dearly and only wants what's best for him. He is her priority and everything (and everyone) else is put second to him, which is, ironically, basically the source of her problems.
lucifer --> A rather complicated relationship, it's clear Lucifer has some sort of "affection" (or obsession, rather) with Alexiel, enough that even without knowing why, because of lost memories, followed her through all her incarnations up until Setsuna. Alexiel states several times about his "love meaning nothing", and I'm still personally rather unclear on what type of interpretation I agree with more: whether she means because he is cold and doesn't truly understand the concept (because it's a human emotion) or that despite his love, it can't help her or them because their goals clash. (Whatever, it could mean both, or neither). Either way, it's constantly referenced that he loves her, Setsuna acusing him a few times of loving her at different points in the manga, although Lucifer (or Kira/Nanatsuyana) denies them every time. Exchanges from other characters (particular the Mad Hatter and Rosiel) make it obvious he is in fact denying something that's true, although whether or not Alexiel returns these feelings is never explicitly stated. From the ending, it could be alluded she does, and she gives a few hints that she loves him throughout the manga, although they're sparse. Not that it matters, anyway, because Rosiel has to come first and Rosiel will always come first. (maybe things can be different in a place like nuadoria, who knows ♥ ).
setsuna --> her latest incarnation, she has a lot of faith in Setsuna and his ability to be the true Messiah that everyone seems to think she is supposed to be. She is very protective of him, and treats him completely separate from herself. She shows a lot of affection and admiration for the boy, and even goes as far as to revive him when Lucifer kills him instead of allowing herself to be revived as a result of Setsuna's death.
kurai --> Alexiel saves Kurai from being raped by a group of angels after her country was... uh, "ethnically cleansed" ;;;. Kurai looked up to Alexiel so much that she even fell in love with her (romantically, she wanted to grow up and marry Alexiel and protect her because Alexiel expressed a hint she'd of liked to have been protected instead of acting like a man and fighting all the time). Alexiel seems fond of Kurai, although her fondness pales in comparison to Setsuna's affection for her, as he views her like a little sister (whereas Alexiel seemed rather distant throughout everything).
YHWH --> While it's initially thought she was in love with YHWH, and thus was jealous of him loving her brother instead, it's found out that she lied only to protect Rosiel and that Rosiel was the one she loved, instead. She has a lot of hate for YHWH, as he is the sole source of all her problems from being caged in Eden, to losing Lucifer, and ultimately losing Rosiel as well. And then there was that whole reincarnation punishment...
powers;
Alexiel's powers are a bit complicated as she's considered one of the most powerful in heaven but she isn't seen fighting/using them very much at all in AS as the manga revolves more around Setsuna as Setsuna rather than Alexiel herself. However, she doesn't have even a fraction of the power in Nuadoria, so it's not a huge deal. She is said to very battle-skilled, although she doesn't have Nanatsuyana with her to wield, so again perhaps her fighting skill is worth mentioning, but a moot point.
(Setsuna gets sick at the sight of blood because of Alexiel's presence, and I'm going to run with that and say it bothers her a bit, too, because while she's the only one who can wield Nanatsuyana before Setsuna finally can when Lucifer separates from it, all the other owners went crazy/killed themselves. As awesome as Alexiel is, I don't believe she got away without being a little mentally scathed so it's either the typical berserker tendency people say she had during the war at the sight of it, or getting sick. Since being a berserker isn't going to do much in Nuadoria for affect, she'll probably be reacting more like Setsuna did at the sight of it in the beginning of the manga.)
What are they bringing to Nuadoria?: AND SHE BRINGS NOTHING BUT HER WINGS WITH HER AND A WHOLE LOT OF SILENT SCREAMING BECAUSE ROSIEL IS ALREADY HERE... ♥ (yes, she's weaponless, baaaw)
Third Person;
It was in fleeting moments like these that she felt the smallest crack in her cold mask add to the last insignificant one that had reverberated through her before it. Centuries worth of small dents and chips on a beautifully and perfectly constructed vizard were truly starting to make it not so beautiful anymore. Marred and damaged and without it, she could not help her dear brother. Without it, she was worthless in battle, worthless against her enemies. Her brother started those cracks, when all she was allowed to do was ignore him as if his existence meant nothing. But, it did not stop there. If it had stopped there, perhaps-no, there was no doubt-this never would have happened. She would still be in her beautiful little cage, wings clipped and voice strangled to silence.
It had not stopped there because that man had such arrogance that he violated her poisonous sanctuary. She hadn't asked for him to come, hadn't asked him to destroy that wall of blindness and ignorance she had to existence outside her Eden. His attitude had bled hate, disgust for the path of sin he was destined to follow. But, at first sight, her only thoughts of him were of his magnificent four wings. And then it was his eyes.
Four Wings. Lucifel. Nanatsusaya.
The constant and only companion, memories lost or not. How high he had been in the rankings of the angels only to fall so far. And, she, ultimately went with him, didn't she. If she had been different, she would have wondered exactly why he had been such a relation to her. But, she knew, didn't she? Or she pretended to know, because while she could speak the words to him, the concept was incomprehensible to her (why did she take his hand when he reached out to her?)
The concept-It-meant nothing. It could mean nothing. Rosiel was the only thing that mattered and for it to have meant something meant Rosiel was no longer her one and only. Yet, he was the only one that could matter if she were to protect him, however poor and disgustedly weak her protection had truly become. How cowardly it had ended up, as well-and perhaps that was truly the reason she was content to never think on her own self and some concoction of an idea to find happiness herself-only on what she hoped was even half decent enough to protect her brother from himself.
And despite that, she knew she would never be able to do what she had wanted accomplish in the first place. She'd run away, fallen deep and hopeless, searching through her punishment for the one who could do what she could not. And she'd found him-yes, him, how perfectly ironic it was when that conversation with the young evil was reminisced, no?-a boy so far different from her that she could only happily (it was happiness, wasn't it?) slumber in his consciousness, happy to lie dormant as long as she could be a part of it. Setsuna,,
But that was all gone now and it had been for a while. But here she was, in this dear boy's body that Lucifer had just so mercilessly cut down-did he have no remorse? Or was he just as perfect of a tool as she was, throwing away any sense of emotional dependency thatcould make them weak.
Or, just make them somewhat human.
But Lucifer spoke true words. Alexiel was not truly emotionless. No, she had her feelings. She had her persona: not cold and uncaring, but strong, determined, and quite the opposite of unfeeling in every sense of the word. Yes, feelings; but, the only way she knew to express them-to save the ones she loved-was to kill them to spare them their pain. Rosiel. A seal had not been good enough. A seal was a cowardly way to end it all, and now look at the mess she had ultimately come to make. A mess Alexiel herself could not fix. Tragic that she was supposed to be so grand and she couldn't even ammend her own errors. Mudou Setsuna would have to fix it because he was the only one who could.
Now, just how did Lucifer come to prove her right when he'd been able to prove her so wrong elsewhere? Standing there in Setsuna's path, determined enough in his own means to ignore any semblance of emotions he'd acquired as Sakuya Kira. Yes, Lucifer was right. She only knew how to kill the ones she loved to save them.
Even now, Setsuna had slowly taught her a truth that she did not want to face. She was not the Messiah, but she also had started to realize even before that perhaps while Setsuna was the true Messiah, it was not necessarily his responsibly to right her own wrongs. To save her loved ones was not part of being the Messiah.
How Alexiel wished that she could save her dear ones as Setsuna knew how and tried to save his.
But she was not Setsuna. She would have to take her responsibly and kill Rosiel, for his own sake. And she would kill this man standing before her, too, because indeed he'd succumbed to the point he gave her no other choice.
No, she was not Setsuna. That was why Setsuna was the one who would be the Saviour, and Alexiel, instead, would carry the blood on her own hands for him.
First Person;
...What's this? [Silence, as she slowly takes in her surroundings and herself. Herself, not Setsuna.] ...This shouldn't be. I can't be apart from him; he didn't die. I didn't let him.
...But you're not here, are you, Setsuna? And, most likely neither is that man.
So, then, where have I ended... [she pauses, a small hitch in her breath because it's very very faint, but she thinks she feels someone quite familiar here, although she isn't sure and perhaps the most unsettling of all. Oh...] ...up?
