But yes, I do see where you are coming from...except if there were Imperial troops- he literally could not send them away. Lando is between a rock and a hard place.
Lucas/ Director Kershner hint through the dialogue- Han dropping in is totally unexpected, who do you have here, oh, isn't that nice, and hey, are you sure the MF needs repairs?
My issue is that after Timothy Zahn's first 3 series Lando's character got more and more outrageous, when clearly Lando is anything but outrageous. Calculating, yes, and able to use people, yes, and brave, yes, but he's no fool and certainly not a conman. Empire was incredibly rich with character development, and it kinda bums me the way EU was developed after Zahn did his thing
