I love Roger Ebert, I really do, but he has confessed to being an Anglophile, of the sort that think all Brits speak beautifully and wear starched collars. ( The Granada Series with Brett was the best of all sherlock holmes movies and series up until then- including the Rathbone series- interracial sex( which was an actual story in Sherlock Holmes)! refugees! plots for profit!- all extremely well paced. But it was still rather sanitized.Not bad one to look up!)
I've always been a biiig non-fan of "fretful" Watson, though.The Rathbone series completely FUCKED that characterization completely. Someone who was in TWO tours in what we will call Afghanistan ( the northern most part of what was considered India's Frontier) serving as medical personnel and who was a soldier himself - and who has the wounds to prove it- would NOT BE FRETFUL ( ... )
