Sherlock Holmes does not wear a Deerstalker.

I love Roger Ebert, I really do, but he has confessed to being an Anglophile, of the sort that think all Brits speak beautifully and wear starched collars. Excellent assessment. I made a similar argument to my father but with slightly less grasp of the text as I haven't given it a proper re-read in years. I should though. I've always been a biiig non-fan of "fretful" Watson, though. If I had to choose between the old series and the new film it'd be the new film.

I was a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes in Junior High andHigh School- I had all the stories, plus I had a picture of Jeremy Brett as Holmes when my parents joined a PBS drive!

( The Granada Series with Brett was the best of all sherlock holmes movies and series up until then- including the Rathbone series- interracial sex( which was an actual story in Sherlock Holmes)! refugees! plots for profit!- all extremely well paced. But it was still rather sanitized. Not bad one to look up!)

I've always been a biiig non-fan of "fretful" Watson, though. The Rathbone series completely FUCKED that characterization completely. Someone who was in TWO tours in what we will call Afghanistan ( the northern most part of what was considered India's Frontier) serving as medical personnel and who was a soldier himself - and who has the wounds to prove it- would NOT BE FRETFUL ( ... )
